China has undergone enormous changes in the past of 30 years since 1978.Construction industry,an essential industrial sector of national economy,is very important in the process of China's economic development.The total value of out-put has increased from 347 billion yuan in 1980 to 176713 billion yuan in 2014.The added value of construction industry in 2014 is 44790 billion yuan,accounting for 7.04%of GDP.The number of employees has increased from 17 million 830 thousand in 1991 to 45 million 370 thousand in 2014.On the one hand,the development of construction industry can lead to the development of other industries,such as building materials,transportation,machinery,energy,and so on;on the other hand,it consumes a lot of resources and energy.How to maintain the efficient development of the construction industry and to improve the efficiency of the construction industry on the use of resources and energy efficiency has become the research content of many scholars.Nowadays,there are still some problems in the construction industry in our country,such as extensive management,competition disorder and low efficiency,so it is very necessary to research on the efficiency of the construction industry in our country.This article compares the TFP(Total Factor Productivity)under the different calculation methods,describes the calculation of Malmquist index and decomposition methods.Collected during the period 2004 to 2014,31 provinces and autonomous regions in Mainland China construction industry inputs,outputs basic data,using Malmquist-DEA of these 31 provinces in the construction industry productivity calculation and analysis of empirical.The results show that,from a national perspective,China's total factor productivity in the 2004-2014 of the 11 years of total factor productivity values are greater than 1,which means that the development of the construction industry is efficient.The change of total factor productivity in the construction industry is the result of the interaction of technical efficiency and technical progress,in general,total factor productivity change and technical efficiency change broadly consistent,technical efficiency of total factor productivity changes with larger,but the role of technological progress also can not allow to be ignored,it makes the change of total factor productivity tends to ease.From the point of view of the level of national 31 province,autonomous regions,municipalities directly under the central government,most national 31 province,autonomous regions,municipalities directly under the central government of the Malmquist productivity index is greater than 1,indicating that the productivity in the construction industry have different degree of progress.Among the provinces of the construction industry total factor productivity levels are significant differences,which only Beijing,Tianjin,Jilin,the technology progress of the four provinces of Zhejiang(Tech)of total factor productivity to promote obvious effect,and the remaining 27 provinces are to promote the efficiency of technology results.The results show that in various provinces of the country level,scope of the effect of technological progress on total factor productivity of China's construction industry is still relatively small,most of the city's construction industry production efficiency is mainly affected by the technical efficiency.Technology investment in different provinces have different impact on the technological progress index of different provinces,and further affect the total factor productivity of the province's construction industry,resulting in the difference between different provinces.These results indicated that production efficiency of construction industry in China are still effective.But from a long-term point of view,the influence of technology progress on the total factor productivity of construction industry is not enough,and it is important to increase the technological innovation and improve the new progress of the input level.Whether it is from the national level or from the provincial level to calculate the total factor productivity of China's construction industry shows that the production efficiency of China's construction industry is still efficient.But from a long-term perspective,the impact of technological progress on the total factor productivity of construction industry is still not enough.In the long run,technological progress is important to the sustainable and healthy development of construction.In the future,we should increase the level of investment in technological progress and innovation.No matter in the perspect of the construction industry narrow technical progress angle,such as increasing the level of investment in technical equipment,researching new materials.Promoting the construction mechanization and improving the quality of construction.Or from the perspective of the generalized technical progress,the technology innovation of construction method and traditional project management methods organic combination,industry,academia,research division of labor,and between universities,research institutions,enterprises,industry reasonable division of labor.Try to improve the technical ability and technological innovation environment of the construction industry enterprises.From all aspects of the construction industry to enhance the level of technological progress,thus promoting the construction industry faster and better sustained and healthy development.The innovation of this paper is mainly on the methods and ideas.On the way,this paper calculates the construction total factor productivity.The way of measurement is combination of DEA and Malmquist,which is called DEA-Malmquist productivity index method.This paper calculates and decompose the total factor productivity from 2004 to 2014 in China construction industry and analysis of the national and provincial level difference.On the point of view,this paperr holds that the decomposition of total factor productivity factors in technical progress this factor has a great influence on the construction industry in our country productivity growth,more emphasis on the role of technological progress in a variety of factors,this paper focus on the discussion of technical progress factor.
