Storage location assignment,namely the rational location assignment based on material characteristics is of great significance in warehouse efficiency and cost control for goods picking and inventory cycle count.The paper re-distributes the materials in the warehouse based on the correlations of different kinds of materials.The result meets the item-pick lists characteristics law.The distance of picking process will be reduced and the efficiency of delivery will be increased.This paper mainly contains the following several aspects.Firstly,this paper expounds the basic theory research of storage location assignment problem.With specific literature for reference,this paper introduces the definition of storage location assignment and summarizes the advantages and disadvantages of random storage policy,closet storage policy,fixed storage policy,full-turnover storage policy and class-based storage policy,and their applicable environment.Secondly,on the premise of analyzing the status of warehouse B,a mathematical model is established for linear placement of correlated storage location assignment problem(LPCSLAP),and a minimum delay algorithm(MDA)is proposed to solve it.Each delay-time of item in the entire picking process was calculated by placing it in the furthest available location from the In/Out point.Then the item with less delay-time would be placed in the further location to reduce the entire distance of picking process.Thirdly,the validity of MDA is tested by comparison between MDA and CPLEX.After that,the proposed method is applied to the special case of warehouse B,and the computational result shows the efficiency of MDA by comparing with frequency storage policy and random storage policy.Finally,a new set of pick lists have been simulated by Matlab software as test data.The result shows that the quality of solution performed by MDA is better by averagely 14.2%than frequency storage policy and 26.4%than random storage policy.Furthermore,the optimization of MDA is move obvious with the increasing of correlation within all kinds of materials.The proposed MDA offers a rationale for storage location assignment in automobile accessory industries,and sequentially improve the efficiency of the entire warehouse operation.
