The Mechanism And Empieical Study Of FDI's Impact On Chinese Cities Suburbanization

Suburbanization is a kind of process when city population,manufacturing and services continuously moving out from the center to suburb.Developed countries has done a lot of researches about suburbanization as they have noticed this economic phenomenon earlier.Suburbanization in China usually accompany with urbanization and now has aroused scholars' attention.Currently,there are still problems about suburbanization waiting for further research especially the measuring and causes of China's suburbanization,which are also the focus of this paper.After the analysis of literatures about urban suburbanization at home and abroad,based on the the theoretical hypothesis of mono-centric city,this paper incorporates FDI into the analytical framework of suburbanization,constructs the suburbanization and sprawl indexes at municipal area level through global night light data,Landscan population distribution data&the vector data of administrative areas in China,and uses the panel data of municipal areas at prefecture level or above from 2003 to 2013 to test the effect of FDI on suburbanization and the robust check.The conclusions of this paper are as follows:firstly,the suburbanization level of China is not as high as the developed countries,the overall trend of suburbanization turned out to be decline.secondly,FDI is actually one of the key factors of China's suburbanization,its influences are carried out through four paths.lastly,the promotion role of FDI on suburbanization varies with regions due to the unbalanced regional distribution of FDI,the introduce of FDI significantly stimulates the suburbanization development of East China,but does not have obvious effects on the suburbanization of West and Central China.In the end,this paper put forward some suggestions about China's city development:fist,we should promote suburbanization to a moderate degree and investigate the relationship between FDI and suburbanization respectively.second,we should aware of city sprawl which may generated by the inflow of FDI and take measures to encourage city agglomeration.finally,most small and medium-sized cities should pay more attention to city planning in order to construct a multi-center city.
