Identification Of Chinese Manufacturing Clusters And Their Organizational Characteristics Analysis

In this paper,with Chinese manufacturing industry as the research object,the author uses such methods as principal component analysis,cluster analysis,consensus clustering method and Geocoding method to identify industrial clusters and then analyses the spatial organizational characteristics of manufacturing clusters.The data concerning 84 manufacturing sectors used in the empirical analysis come from China input-output table in 2012 and enterprise data from the 2013 economic census database,which contains a total of 1001846 manufacturing enterprises.To identify manufacturing clusters with consensus clustering method and the author gets 15 consensus industrial clusters according to functional relations among industries.After that,the spatial distribution information of the manufacturing industry is used to further confirm geographical distribution of Chinese manufacturing clusters.At last,the spatial organizational characteristics of manufacturing clusters are concluded.In accordance with the division of the 31 sectors of manufacturing industry,14 types of manufacturing clusters are achieved finally,namely catering,fur products,tobaccos,textile,housewear&furnishings,fiber products,petrochemical products,mechanical products,metals,precision instruments,printing and education,medicine,transportation,facility manufacturing.Each kind of manufacturing cluster has some industrial clusters in different regions.Based on the analysis of organizational characteristics of manufacturing clusters,it is found that large scale regional manufacturing clusters generally contain large or medium-sized enterprises,most of which are small enterprises and micro enterprises;capital intensive industrial clusters generally adopt the central radiation organization model,while technology intensive industrial cluster belongs to satellite industry cluster,and labor intensive industrial cluster is usually a typical Marshall type industrial cluster;besides,the geographical environment,regional culture and social background have an impact on the organizational characteristics of the cluster too.
