With the rapid development of economic globalization and internet technology,a group of technology-based micro and small enterprises developed based on communication and information technology are emerging in the market.They have the characteristics of high innovation,high investment,high benefit,high risk and high growth,which are significance to speed up change in the mode of economic development and promote industrial structure to higher.However,due to the lack of financing channel,resources and environment restriction and fierce market competition,the survival and development of technology-based micro and small enterprises face a great test.Technology-based micro and small enterprises need to search a new weapon to deal with the current intense market competition.In recent years,business model design has drawn increasing attention.Existing studies have shown the influence of business model design on enterprise performance,which focus primarily on e-commerce and information technology and give priority to conceptual model and case study.How business model design plays a role in innovation performance are still under investigation and do not yet reach an agreement.Based on the literature review of business model design,network embeddedness and innovation performance,this paper introduced network embeddedness as moderating variable,built a conceptual model of network embeddedness(including relational embeddedness and structural embeddedness),business model design(including novelty-centered business model design and efficiency-centered business model design)and innovation performance.215 technology-based micro and small firms are investigated via questionnaires.Using Smart-PLS,correlation analysis and hierarchy regression analysis are conducted to verify hypothesis.Then draw the following conclusions:(1)Both novelty-centered business model design and efficiency-centered business model design have positive influence on innovation performance.(2)Relational embeddedness positively moderates the relationship between novelty-centered business model design and innovation performance.With high relational embeddedness,the effect of novelty-centered business model design on innovation performance strengthens,while the impact of efficiency-centered business model design oninnovation performance is hampered.(3)Structural embeddedness positively moderates the relationship between business model design and innovation performance.With high structural embeddedness,both novelty-centered and efficiency-centered business model designs have positively effect on innovation performance.The conclusions have important theoretical and practical significance.First,provide theoretical support for the impact of network embeddedness on the relationship between business model design and innovation performance.Second,provide a practical evaluation model for technology-based micro and small enterprises' business model design.Third,contribute to select the appropriate network embeddedness mode and improve competitive advantage by designing a particular business model.Finlly,provide a practice basis for future researchers' study.
