Because of the particularity of the rising age of Chinese private enterprises,most of family businesses are faced with the problem of power transmission from the previous generation of entrepreneurs to the next generation of successors.The intergenerational succession in family businesses has become a common group event rather than a case.People have doubts about the abilities of successors all along.But,is this really the case? Scholars at home and abroad have not reached a unanimous conclusion about this problem.In addition,there is a lack of systematic theoretical discussion and empirical research on the mechanism and the role of intergenerational succession in family business performance.Based on the shortcomings of existing research,the thesis constructs a theoretical model of the relationship between intergenerational succession,innovation and performance of family business.The thesis takes the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed family business as research object and then discusses the influence of intergenerational succession on performance of family business and the internal mechanism between them.The results show that: intergenerational succession has a significant negative impact on the performance and innovation of family business.The partial intermediary effect of business innovation between intergenerational succession and business performance is significant,indicating that intergenerational succession leads to a decline in the performance of family business and one of the mechanisms is that intergenerational succession reduces the investments in innovation.The main contributions of the thesis are as follows.(1)Based on the Chinese context,the thesis examines the relationship of intergenerational succession and performance of family business with 1028 sample data of listed family business by using empirical research method.(2)In the thesis,the business innovation is incorporated into the study of intergenerational succession and we try to explore the factors that influence the performance of family business from the internal perspective of resource input.This is a breakthrough in the previous study of direct relationship,which is helpful to make up the gap in the internal perspective of the relationship between intergenerational succession and performance of family business.The results of the thesis have important practical significance for the family businesses to carry out the business innovation management and to improve the performance in the stage of intergenerational succession.
