Since the implementation of the Hong Kong and Macao personal travel policy, the mainland Chinese travel to Hong Kong more often,Hong Kong has become one of the important markets for mainland outbound travel. In this context, the situation is often reported by the media, but the related academic research, especially in Chinese journals,is still less.Research for the mainland Chinese tourists’ temporal-spatial behavior needs to be added. The development of temporal-spatial behavior research is accompanied by the rise of behavioral geography and the rise of time geography. It makes the spatial dimension and the temporal dimension get a good combination, which is beneficial to the process-oriented refinement analysis for the spatial behavior of microcosmic individuals. With the development of science and technology and the deepening of related research, the methods of data collection and analysis of temporal-spatial behavior are also improving.GPS technology, mobile communication technology and visual analysis technology are gradually applied. With the advent of the Web 2.0 era, more and more tourists record their own travel experience on the travel notes site, which contains a lot of information about their itinerary. The information allows researchers to obtain the behavior data of the tourists without having to enter the tourist area.So it is suitable for the study of mainland Chinese tourists’ temporal-spatial behavior.Compared with other data sources, travel notes data can meet the needs of long-term spatial behavior research, can be added to the late practice of time geography.Based on the above background, this study collects travel notes from Chanyouji,Baidu Lvyou,Ctrip by the web crawler program, which describes the mainland Chinese tourists’ experiences in Hong Kong in 2011-2015,extracts the itinerary information, travel time information and text content. With the spatial statistics and analysis methods in ArcGIS,temporal-spatial behavior characteristics and its evolution were analyzed, the following conclusions were drawn:(1)in 2011-2015,the temporal-spatial behavior of mainland tourists maintains a long-term "one-nuclear and multi-point" gathering characteristics,"one nuclear" refers to the core area of Kowloon,Hong Kong Island,"multi-point" refers to Disneyland,Ocean Park, and so on.The attraction,as shopping and sightseeing,of travel nodes and the impact of Hong Kong film and television is the main reason for this gathering situation.(2)The amount change of mainland tourists to Hong Kong has a certain seasonal characteristics, the annual winter and summer is the peak tourist season. In 2011-2015,the enthusiasm of mainland tourists to Hong Kong has changed, from rising to declining.(3)In 2013-2015,the choices of mainland tourists for tourist destinations become wider, new hot spots gathered areas, such as Tuen Mun,Tsuen Wan,MacLehose trail, etc.,are gradually emerging, reflecting the more diverse travel demand of mainland tourists.(4)Travel notes can provide a traceability of the past for the temporal-spatial behavior research, has a unique value for the related study. This paper explores the characteristics and evolution of temporal-spatial behavior of mainland tourists in Hong Kong based on the travel notes data, provides the data foundation and methodological enlightenment for describing the temporal-spatial behavior of outbound tourists. The study uses the online travel notes data, which avoids the real obstacles for implementation faced by the similar research. The obtained data are representative based on the comparison with the relevant reports, put forward a feasible way for a comprehensive understanding of the mainland tourists traveling to Hong Kong.Due to the limitations of online travel notes data, although the study does a certain degree of visualization and interpretation work, but can only stay in the larger time and space scale for the description of temporal-spatial behavior, and it is difficult to do deeper causal exploration. The future of the relevant research can be combined with a small amount of data on the basis of the survey, which means,"big data" to find the law and relevance, while "small data" to verify the law and correlation. Finally,in the land of China, tourism research can be more based on the native ground, try the combination of new data sources with the new method to help understand the local phenomenon, and thus promote the output and development of original theory.
