The Wuyi Mountains is located in the border of Jiangxi Province and Fujian Province. With bordering Xianxia Mountain to the north and Jiulian Mountain to the south, the Wuyi Mountains presents north east and south west direction. The length of the mountains is approximately 550 km and the average altitude is about 1000m.The special geographical location and favorable ecological environment of the mountains preserve the most complete and typical subtropical forest ecosystems with the largest coverage in the same latitude in the world.Scholars at home and abroad began to investigate and study the birds in habiting Wuyi Mountains in Fujian in a very early time. However, the scope of the study was limited to the single preservation area. From May 2015 to December 2016,with the infrared camera, the author adopted line-transect method to investigate the biodiversity of bird in habiting four national nature reserves, one provincial-level nature reserve and one National Forest Park of Wuyi Mountains in Fujian. The study covers the southern, northern and middle sections of Wuyi Mountains in Fujian. The results are as follow:(1)There are 5547 birds recorded, which belong to 13orders,42 families,105 genus and 170 species, covering a proportion of 33.80%of the total number of birds in Fujian Province.Among the birds investigated, there exist 120 species of passeriformes bird and 50 speciss of non-passeriformes.(2)Residents and summer migrants are dominating in terms of in habitant species, with 107 species and 35 species respectively.(3)In the respect of avifauna, birds of oriental realm species were in the majority with 140 species recorded and accounting for 82.35%of the total number of species. The results of the investigation in this area are consistent with those in the zoogeographic zone of Wuyi Mountains in Fujian which belongs to eastern hilly plain of central China.(4)There are 903 birds which belong to 15 species are on the list of national key protection birds in the investigation, with the proportion of 8.82%and 16.34%in the total number of species of birds and the total quantity. In this investigation, those belonging to the national level ? key protection birds are Syrmaticus ellioti and Tragopan caboti, while the level ? are Glaucidium cuculoides,Otus bakkamoena,Glaucidium brodiei,Accipiter soloensis,Accipiter trivirgatus,Elanus caeruleus,Ictinaetus malayensis,Spilornis cheela,Nisaetus nipalensis,Centropus sinensis,Lophura nythemera,Macropygia unchall.(5)The elevational distribution pattern of birds inWuyi Mountains in Fujian is pre peak mode of mid-domain null models, namely the highest in the middle and low altitude area while relatively lower in the middle and high altitude area.(6)The results of ? biodiversity of bird communities at different elevational gradients in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian show that the similarity of the bird communities in the adjacent elevation gradient is higher than that in other elevation gradients. There are significant differences between bird communities,in low elevation and high elevation no matter in terms of species or numbers.(7)Based on cluster analysis of five elevational distribution of the birds recorded in the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian,it is primarily suggested that there is a significant difference between bird species in high altitude and low altitude areas, with the largest number of species in the first four elevations.(8)Rare pheasants recorded in Wuyi Mountains of Fujian include Lophura nythemera,Tragopan caboti,Arborophila gingica,Syrmaticus ellioti and Pucrasia macrolopha.Lophura nythemera is the specie of rare pheasants that accounts for largest proportion of 83.89%in the total number of rare pheasants. The number and species of rare pheasants in habiting in the altitude of 1000 m to 1399 m are higher than those in other altitudes. This is the first time to investigate the diversity and elevational distribution of birds in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian, which provides basic data and theoretical basis for the protection of bird diversity in the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian.
