With the high speed development of lase diode(LD)and growing need of solid state lasers,people have been paying much attention to the exploration of LD-pumped laser cryatals in recent years.This paper reports the growth and spectral assessments of Yb3+ ion doped MgMoO4(Yb3+:MgMoO4)crystal and Tm3+ ion doped SrMoO4(Tm3+:SrMoO4)grown by the TSSG method.(1)Growth and polarized spectral properties of Yb3+:MgMoO4 crystal,including absorption and emission cross-sections,absorption FWHM and fluorescence lifetime have been investigated.Absorption cross-sections at 978nm is 1.03×10-20 cm2(E//Ng),and emission cross-sections at 1002nm is 0.5×10-20 cm2((E//Ng).The laser performance parameters ?min,Isat and Imin at 1002nm have also been evaluated.All the investigated results show the Yb3+:MgMoO4 crystal is expected to be a promising candidate for ultrashort pulse and tunable lasers.(2)A composite flux system consisted of Na2MoO4 and B2O3 was applied to grow SrMoO4 and Tm3+:SrMoO4 crystal.Based on the obtained large size crystal,we studied the spectral properties of Tm3+:SrMoO4,and the results show theTm3+:SrMoO4 is expected as a promising candidate for laser materials.(3)A new experimental design method,mixing design,was explored to guide the flux crystal growth of SrMoO4 and Tm3+:SrMoO4 crystal.A systematical methodology to evaluate the effectiveness of this experimental design has also been developed.
