Strengthening the root traits of wetland plants and its correlation with the part above ground is helpful to understand the interaction among plant characters, the utilization and the allocation of resources in plant growth process. It is significant to illustrate functional difference of plants in different ecosystems and to expand the economic pedigree theory of plant resources. This paper chosen one of the most typical wetlands in Poyang Lake--Nanji wetland as the study area.We the root and leaf with 22 species as the samples.Furthermore we studied the components of total carbon?C?,total nitrogen?N?and total phosphorus?P?,root tissue density?RTD?and specific root length?SRL?.The root traits were compared with the leaf traits to explore the relationship between the root and leaf, and the correlation could be changed by the degrees of root. The research results showed that:1.The variation range of SRL for the first level root, the second level root and the third level were 41.52-812.38m·g-1,10.21-879.45m·g-1,and 0.59-160.23m·g-1respectively.The average of SRL was decreased gradually with the increase of the levels. The variation of RTD for these three levels were 0.05-0.55g·cm-3,0.01-0.43g·cm-3,and0.03-0.59g·cm-33 respectively. The order of average RTD were the first level root, the second level root and the third level root. The variation range of total C content for these three root systems were 304.56 mg·g-1-412.16 mg·g-1,322.7-417.02 mg·g-1,and 267.15-423.22 mg·g-1respectively,the average total C content increased gradually with the increase of root level. The variation of total N content for these three root systems were 8-31.05mg·g-1,3.98-27.04mg·g-1,and 2.22-12.52mg·g-11 respectively, the order of average total N content were the third root, the first root and the second level. The variation range of destiny total P content was0.31-1.79 mg·g-1,0.49-2.36 mg·g-11 and 0.31-2.70 mg·g-11 respectively, the average value decreased gradually with the increase of root level.2.The SLA varied from 23.61 cm2·g-11 to 2276.82 cm2·g-1,the average SLA was333.14 cm2·g-1.The biggest SLA appeared in Veronica peregrina Linn(535.42cm2·g-1),the lowest SLA appeared in Carex doniana Spreng(140.60 cm2·g-1).The total C content varied from 245.37 mg·g-11 to 450.25 mg·g-1,the average value of it was 393.09 mg·g-1.The total N content varied from 11.28 mg·g-11 to 56.75 mg·g-1,the average value of it was 33.40 mg·g-1.The total P content varied from 0.44 mg·g-11 to2.41 mg·g-1,the average value of it was 1.50 mg·g-1.3.The SRL,RTD and SLA between different species showed a significant difference?P<0.01?.The SLA for the species which grown in low shoal land were lower than the species which grown in high shoal land. The SLA for some meadow vegetation which grown in high shoal land were comparably high.4.Total C content of fine root increased with the increase of root level, while total N and total P content were mostly decreased with the increase of root order, total C,N and P contents for the leaves were higher the underground roots. The content of total C,N and P for the leaves and these content for the roots of different degrees showed an obviousdifference among different species?P<0.05?.The roots with different degrees for common species in Poyang Lake Wetland showed a correlation between different traits. Both SRL and RTD showed significant negative correlations in the first level?F=38.713,P<0.01?,the second level?F=10.05,P<0.01?and the third level?F=16.621,P<0.01?respectively,and there was no correlation between SRL,RTD and the corresponding C,N,P,and N,P of the fine roots?P>0.05?.5.There were significant positive correlations between SLA and each SRL of the common species in Nanji wetland of Poyang Lake. The results showed that there was a significant positive correlation between SLA and the first level SRL?r=0.41,P<0.05?,the second level SRL?r=0.50,P<0.05?and the third SRL?r=0.58,P<0.05?.There was a certain correlation between the total C,N and P content of root systems for the leaves of the common species. The total C content of leaves was strongly correlated with the first level root?r=0.46,P<0.01?and the second level root?r=0.33,P<0.01?.There was a significant correlation of total N content between leaf and the first level root?r=0.25,P<0.01?,the second level root?r=0.35,P<0.01?,the correlation of total N content with the third level root was obvious?r=0.28,P<0.05?,and the relationship of the total P content between leaf and each level of root was irrelevant.
