With the rapid development of computer technology,earth observation technology and geographic information system technology,geographic information service has been rapidly integrated into people's lives.Map,as one of the main forms of geographic information service products,people's demand for its kind and quantity is higher and higher.Therefore,map design is a very important task.In map design,the design of map symbols occupies a very important position.The design of map symbols includes the mapping of map symbols and the establishment of a map symbol library.Among them,the drawing of map symbols needs to consider many factors,including the speed of map symbol drawing and the convenience of map symbol drawing.The quality of symbol design is of great significance to map design.In addition,the map symbol database is constructed by mapping the good map symbols according to certain classification.The map symbol library can provide users with functions such as displaying and querying map symbols.At the same time,how to coordinate the symbols and form a system,making the symbol library automatically select map symbols for users based on different map contents is also a key issue in symbol design.This paper studies the related theories and knowledge of symbol selection and drawing in map design.Combining with the actual mapping experience and requirements of map production units,we use the knowledge representation and reasoning method in artificial intelligence to design and implement a map library system based on knowledge to achieve the intelligent selection and drawing of map symbols.The main innovations include:(1)Using object-oriented thinking to analyze the features of various types of map symbols in maps,divide the basic symbols of map symbols in the Coreldraw environment.And on this basis,the map symbols are classified,organized and stored.At the same time,in order to facilitate the intelligent selection of map symbols,a map symbol index module is established to allow users to select the desired symbol more quickly and easily.(2)For various common map symbols,especially linear map symbols,their rendering algorithms are studied in the CorelDraw environment.For the map symbols such as the Great Wall,bridges,and highways under construction that are difficult to draw by hand,corresponding intelligent rendering algorithms have been designed.The intelligent drawing algorithm improves the drafting efficiency of cartographers.In addition,a corresponding river system automation method is designed,which allows the user to adjust the number of sections to be divided by each river and the width of different sections to achieve a better symbolization effect.(3)A rule-based intelligent selection method for map symbols is implemented.On the basis of the establishment of the map symbol library,this paper summarizes the knowledge of cartographic theory accumulated by the cartographers in the map design process,such as experience knowledge and graphic semiotics.By using the expression and inference of production rules in artificial intelligence,the intelligent selection of map symbols with different map contents and different data features is realized.
