Guided by the regional geological knowledge, combined with seismic data, logging data and related geological data, this paper sets up seismic horizon interpretation plan through logging and seismic joint horizon calibration, and then researches on seismic horizon interpretation of the Upper Paleozoic strata in the study area. There are five layers in this interpretation. From top to bottom, they are the top interface of S17 layer in Shanxi Formation, the top interface of Shan-2 Member of Shanxi Formation, the top interface of Taiyuan Formation, the top interface of Benxi Formation and the top interface of Majiagou Formation.By analyzing the logging response characteristics of coal-bearing source rock s and sandstone skeleton in the study area,we distinguis h the sandstone from the coal source rocks by the GR curve and the RT curve, and divide the lithology of the coal measures source rocks by using the AC curve and the RT curve. The logging curves collected in this research are standardized, and then log interpretation is carried out on the basis, which lays the foundation for the prediction of the distribution of coal-bearing source rocks. The seismic attributes for seismic attribute analysis are extracted and selected, then do multiple regression analysis to predict the lithologic thickness of the Upper Paleozoic in the study area. The contribution of coal is very important in the study of hydrocarbon generation potential and calculation of gas generation to coal-bearing source rocks. Therefore, the rock physical analysis of the collected logging data shows that the P-impedance curve is very sensitive to the response of the coal, and the seismic inversion is practical. In view of the flatness of the study area, the thickness of the coal in the study area is predicted by the constrained sparse pulse inversion.Based on the distribution characteristics of coal-bearing source rocks, the hydrocarbon potential of coal-bearing source rocks is researched,so as to predict the intensity of generating gas of the Upper Paleozoic strata in the study area. And combined with the existing distribution of dominant reservoir, the favorable area is predicted.Based on the research of distribution characteristics and hydrocarbon generation potential of coal-bearing source rocks, the following results are obtained: The coal rock of coal-bearing source rocks in the study area are mainly developed in Taiyuan formation and Benxi formation. In particular, the natural gamma value of the coal rock in the Taiyuan formation is low, while the natural gamma value of the coal rock in the Benxi formation is generally higher than that of the Taiyuan formation. For the thickness of mudstone, the Average Instantaneous Frequency,Average Reflection Strength,Ratio of Positive to Negative Samples and Total Amplitude are selected for regression analysis;for the thickness of coal, the Average Reflection Strength,Ratio of Positive to Negative Samples,Average Peak Amplitude and Energy Half Time are used for regression analysis;for the thickness of carbonaceous mudstone, the Ratio of Positive to Negative Samples,Average Peak Amplitude,Slope Instantaneous Frequency and Total Amplitude are used for regression analysis. In the process of inversion, the sensitive parameters should be considered synthe tically so that the inversion section can reflect the distribution characteristics of coal rock as accurately as possible; From the aspect of plane, the intensity of gas generation of the source rock in the study area is characterized by "East strong and west weak";From the vertical aspect, the gas intensity of Benxi formation is the largest, followed by Shanxi formation and Taiyuan formation.
