Food availability with the environmental conditions of fish habitats and has an important role in the selection of fish physiology and behavior.In order to investigate the effects of food availability on fish physiology and behavior,this study used Zacco platypus females as the experimental subjects to determine the standard metabolic rate(SMR)of one feeding and two feeding groups.Personal behavior(including activeness,boldness,exploratory and social)and shoaling behavior(cohesion,coordination).The main findings of this research are as follows:1.SMR has high reproducibility under high food availability;the higher the food availability,the higher the SMR due to food availability;2.Food availability has no effect on pale chub personality(p=0.048);personality and metabolism are only reflected in high food availability;3.After adapting to the environment,pale chub group coordination is enhanced;low food availability makes pale chub group cohesion decline,reducing food resources competition(p=0.026).The whole results show that:1.Pale chub SMR is higher and more stable under high food availability,and is more stable in association with personality.;2.Pale chub has a large variation in physiological morphology,but its personality behavior is not affected by food availability;the association between personality is closer in low food availability;3.By weighing the pros and cons of clusters,Pale chub chooses to reduce shoaling behavior and reduce competition for food resources in low food availability.
