The Sun,for humans,is the most important celestial body in the universe.More than 90%of the energy needed to support our daily life comes from the Sun.In addition,all weather phenomena,atmospheric circulation,and water circulation on the earth are driven by solar energy.What is more,the Sun proves the closest star to us,providing a unique opportunity to study the mechanics of stellar physics in practice.The most striking feature of the Sun is the solar eruption,and the eruption that occurs in the solar atmosphere is related to the magnetic field.Before the eruption,energy is stored in a complex coronal magnetic field.When the complexity of the magnetic field or its free energy exceeds the threshold,the system reaches a critical state.As the instability further evolves,the system loses equilibrium and the explosion begins.Fast magnetic reconnection converts the stored magnetic energy into other types of energy,allowing the eruption to continue smoothly.When the magnetic field structures with different topological connections are close to each other,magnetic reconnection will happen and produce the strongest electric field and corresponding current.The dissipation caused by the resistance converts magnetic energy into plasma kinetic energy and thermal energy,as well as the kinetic energy of high energy particles.Therefore,magnetic reconnection can quickly convert magnetic energy into other forms of energy,so it can cause a variety of fruitful eruptions in the Sun,such as coronal mass ejections,solar flares,and so onBecause studying the physical process of magnetic reconnection and studying the application of magnetic reconnection to the Sun are of great significance and value,the related magnetic reconnection theory is described after giving a brief introduction to the background of solar physics,and then the actual corresponding process of the magnetic reconnection theory on observations and numerical simulations is given in detail.It is found that the fine structure of the reconnection current sheet can be seen in the observa-tion,and the physical quantities such as the current sheet thickness and the magnetic re-connection rate are given in the numerical simulation,and the conditions for the magnetic island source are also given.At last,we,in the section of summary and prospect,offer the research meaning of this paper including some meaningful findings about the evolution of magnetic islands.We also summarize the evolution of magnetic islands in this section.For example,the merger of two magnetic islands is not observed in the observations and it is not clear that on what conditions the magnetic islands can be produced.
