With the development of marine scientific research and earth science research,a large amount of scientific data is generated every day,and visual research on these data is of great significance for marine development,fishery fishing,marine shipping,and marine defense.Based on the purpose of ocean current data visualization in the topic of “Global High Resolution Ocean Reanalysis Product Application Demonstration”,this paper studies the two opposites advantages of more streamlined features and clearer streamlined results in streamline visualization as much as possible.Finally,A streamline visualization method based on metrics is proposed.Firstly,this paper introduces the purpose and significance of the study of ocean current visualization.It analyzes and summarizes the research status of vector field visualization and ocean current stream visualization at home and abroad,and combines the characteristics of global reanalysis' s ocean current data with large data volume,proposes and design reanalysis.Ocean current visualization system.Secondly,this paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of point icon-based vector visualization,geometry-based vector visualization,texture-based vector visualization and feature-based vector visualization,and analyzes their Application field.This paper choose streamline visiualization based on point icon,geometry-based and texture-based as the main research direction.Then the paper focuses on texture-based vector field visualization and streamline-based vector field visualization.In the middle of streamline-based vector field streamline generation and streamline drawing steps,this paper consider that too many similar streamlines are clustered in together,causing the situation of streamline redundancy,and the key features of the streamline are not highlighted.A metric describing the similarity between streamlines is proposed.The metric is mainly affected by the Euclidean distance between the two streamlines,and the shape and direction between the two streamlines have a great influence on it.At last,the formula is proposed for systematic explanation.Based on traditional algorithms,the control variable method is taken as the main experimental method to verify the applicability of the metric-based streamline drawing method.It is found through experiments that a metric-based streamline drawing algorithm is added to the traditional streamline drawing algorithm,which can remove redundant repeating streamlines,retain streamlines with a large number of features,and adaptively draw streamlines according to the characteristics of ocean currents.Then,the effect of parameters on the rendering effect in the metric-based streamline drawing algorithm is verified by experiments,and a set of the best parameters is obtained,which is applied to the final reanalysis current visualization system.Finally,the reanalysis ocean current visualization system is realized.In the system,not only the metric-based visualization algorithm is integrated into the system,but also the point icon visualization and texture-based visualization are realized,which is better to show current data.
