Metasurface is a relatively hot topic in the field of electromagnetic materials in recent years.Metasurface can be simply as a two-dimensional structure of materials.With its succinct planar structure and low cost,MS has wide applications and one of which is on the design of planar antennas with improved performance.Artificially arranged periodic or non-periodic structures with commonly conductive unit cell configuration can produce special electromagnetic properties.Metasurface with special constitutive relation may effectively improve the performance of antenna since fundamental performance of microstrip antennas closely related with the corresponding material constitutive relation.The structure of microstrip antenna and polarization reconfigurable metasurface are the mainly design in this paper.Polarization reconfigurable antenna using metasurface is the combination of metasurface and microstrip antenna.The polarization-reconfigurable metasurface(PRMS)antenna proposed here consists of a slot antenna and a metasurface.The planar MS placed atop of and in direct contact with a planar slot antenna,both having a circular shape with a diameter of 78mm,and thickness is 1.524mm,making it compact and low profile,which can control the microwave on the microstrip antenna.By rotating the MS around the center with respect to the slot antenna,the PRMS antenna can be reconfigurable to linear polarization,left-hand and right-hand circular polarizations.Without the use of electric components,it can be avoided the adverse effect of electric circuits on the antennas performances.For verification of the effect of size on PRMS antenna performance,computer simulation software HFSS is applied for this design.The antenna performance,in terms of polarization reconfigurable,impedance bandwidth,axial-ratio bandwidth and radiation pattern.Result shows that the PRMS antenna in linear polarization achieves an impedance bandwidth,axial-ratio bandwidth and their fractional bandwidth is 3.17-3.84GHz?19.6%,and 3.2-3.8GHz,?16%respectively.The maximum gain is 7.28dBi.While on circular polarizations both right-hand polarization and circular polarization,the operating bandwidth is 3.24-3.8GHz,the gain achieve more than 7.06dBi with cross polarization isolation larger than 50 dB.
