China’s economy has made remarkable achievements in the past 40 years of reform and opening up,but the process of economic growth has been accompanied by a series of environmental pollution problems.Under the background of increasingly contradictory environmental protection and economic development,it is of great practical significance to study the total factor productivity of the environment.Through the study of the total factor productivity of China’s environment from the perspective of heterogeneous material capital,this paper intends to understand the current situation of economic development in China and various provinces and regions,excavate the internal driving factors of economic growth,and contribute to the coordinated development of regional economy.Based on the method of Stochastic Frontier Production Function,this paper establishes the Stochastic Frontier Production Function model from the perspective of homogeneous material capital and heterogeneous material capital according to the use of destination,respectively,according to the difference of technical choice between regions,on the basis of exceeding the setting of logarithmic production function,According to the input department to divide the material capital input into the construction and installation department,the equipment acquisition department and other departments,the research finds that the function model from the perspective of heterogeneous material capital obtains better fitting results,which shows that in the study of the total factor productivity of the environment,it is necessary not only to divide the human capital,The division of material capital is also necessary.Through the calculation and decomposition of the total factor productivity of China’s environment from the perspective of heterogeneous material capital,it is found that the growth of total factor productivity in China is mainly due to the growth of technological progress,and the technical efficiency has a certain influence on the total factor productivity of the environment,while the contribution of the scale effect of technology is relatively small and the loss is large.The trend of environmental total factor productivity change is basically the same in all regions of the country,with the highest environmental total factor productivity in the eastern region and the lowest environmental total factor productivity in the western region,but the gap with the eastern region,the central region and the whole country is gradually decreasing.Through the difference analysis and spatial effect analysis of the total factor productivity of the environment,it is found that China’s current economic development is not balanced,mainly to promote the development of the whole country by the economic development of coastal areas and eastern regions,and the imbalance ofregional economic development is the main reason why the total factor productivity of the environment cannot converge.At the same time,China’s environmental total factor productivity has a significant spatial effect,the level of environmental total factor productivity in a province is not only related to its own economic development,but also to a certain extent will be affected by the resources,environment and other factors of neighboring provinces similar to their spatial characteristics.In order to reduce the difference in the speed of economic development between regions,the Chinese government should make relevant policy adjustments according to local conditions to promote balanced and coordinated economic development.
