Global warming has led to frequent extreme heat incidents. The superposition of socioeconomic factors and urban heat island effects have made the city's extreme heat waves more severe, which has stressed the stability of urban social systems seriously. The urban adaptation planning under extreme heat waves aims to adapt to extreme heat through appropriate planning measures, reduce the impact on people's production and life, reduce the harm to public health, ensure the normal operation of various systems within the city, and improve urban extreme heat adaptability comprehensively,to create a cool urban environment.Adaptation is an important measure to cope with extreme heat waves.Studying urban adaptive planning under extreme heat waves not only provides useful reference for climate-adapted urban construction and urban adaptation to extreme disasters, but also enriches the theory of adaptive planning and expands the research areas of extreme heat waves.Taking Xi'an,a representative extreme heat city in China,as an example, this paper uses geospatial analysis technology, remote sensing analysis technology, questionnaire survey and other methods to sort out the research progress at home and abroad, analyze the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of heat wave in Xi'an and the adaptability characteristics of urban residents. Finally, guided by the existing problems, exploring the comprehensive improvement of urban extreme heat adaptability through urban adaptive planning to create a cool living environment. The study mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)The surface temperature in the study area is significantly different in spatial differentiation. The “heat island” is concentrated in the northwest, characterized by dense north and south dispersion. The “cold island” is mainly in the south and east, and is characterized by south dispersion and east concentration; The spatial distribution of extreme heat islands of 55 streets in Xi'an is uneven, showing a low spatial character in the northeastern part of the northeast.(2)The population exposure of the study area shows the spatial characteristics of “outside low and high internal”.The high exposed area and the second highest exposed area are concentrated in the inner wall of the city wall and the surrounding wall of the city wall, which are more likely to be exposed to extreme heat disasters; And,the residents of Xi'an have a weak perception of extreme heat and lack of active adaptability, especially to the vulnerable people.(3)At the city scale, propose urban adaptive planning to build a cool city, including parks, ventilated green corridors, open spaces, etc.build a green infrastructure system;commercial facilities, subway stations, public buildings, park green spaces, etc.to build a cool place system;Grey infrastructure planning based on resilience thinking;multi-level,multi-part adaptive management measures.(4)On the street scale, according to the characteristics of Jiefangmen Street, adopt progressive renovation and renewal to give full play to the existing potential of the street to meet the residents' summer needs and improve the space thermal environment.Focus on the renovation design of vertical greening, roof greening, street green space, parks, water spray landscape, etc.,and the implementation of the cool place system and the implementation of adaptive management measures.Through the adaptive planning research on the main urban area of Xi'an,it is expected to meet the needs of emergency and long-term,macroscopic and microscopic heatstroke prevention and disaster avoidance, and improve the adaptability and disaster resilience of urban residents to extreme heat waves.
