The pre-stack inversion for field P-wave data is substantially ill-posed and very difficult to be well solved. The inverted results are essentially controlled by the inversion methods. They often vary versus different methods or any tiny procedure variations even for the same set of input data, thus inevitably let the corresponding exploration or exploitation down. This paper classifies the methods of the reservoir prediction into two types, which are linear and non-linear inversion methods. The reservoir characteristics in this area can be summarized by employing different inversion methods of obtaining different elastic parameters into some oilfield in Tarim basin. In addition, the frequency-depended AVO inversion method is also proposed to distinguish the weathering crust reservoir and the problems existing in the pre-stack linear inversion method are brought into our attention,we perform the research on pre-stack linear and non-linear iterative inversion methods and application by comparing the algorithm, the non-linear characteristic, the solvability of the parameters in the equation and application and analyzing the sickness of the Zeoppritz approximate inversion equation. Finally, the reservoir prediction is performed in this oilfield on the basis of the research mentioned above. Its displayed characteristic is obtained from linear and non-linear inversion methods. After comparison, the coincident rate of the reservoir prediction is relatively higher. On the contrast of the linear resolution of non-linear parameter,non-linear inversion method and non-linear iterative inversion method can obtain more accurate results, what’s more, utilizing non-linear inversion method combined with limited iterations can acquire an ideal precision in solving non-linear parameter.
