Stability of natural and artificial slope has been one of the important issues in the geotechnical engineering, limit equilibrium and numerical analysis method, which investigate mainly the relationship of coefficient of stability and factors, always are in the dominant position.Currently, fruitful results about traditional slope analysis methods have been gained.Potential relationship between slope deformation and stability of slope, however, still remains unknown. So it is necessary for engineers and researcher to further carry out sensibility study of slope deformation and stability.Firstly,on the basis of elasto-plastic finite element method(FEM),sensibility study of slope deformation, such as horizontal strains and displacements, was conducted through taking height of slope, slope angle, unit density, cohesion and inner-frictional angle of soil into consideration, and then the grey relation analyzing method has been used to describe the extent of series of factors on maximum horizontal strains.Secondly, based on FEM strength reduction, the relationship of stability coefficients achieved by a number of slopes with different parameters and maximum horizontal strains in slope was established. The results showed maximum horizontal strains decreases with the increase of stability coefficients and an obvious trend can be seen that a band, involved with upper and lower bound curves, exactly exists.Lastly, combining horizontal strains with reinforced slope analysis, comparative study for the stresses of reinforcement calculated by FEM and traditional limit equilibrium method showed that evident difference appeared. This presented that the mechanism of reinforcement in slope is still need to be studied further. The analysis of the relationship of slope deformation and related factors are helpful for slope stability.
