Personality traits exist widely in many animal species, including humans.Animal personality refers to the consistent behavioral differences among individuals of the same species. The biology of animal personality not only has important ecological and evolutionary significance in theory, but also has potential biological significance in practice. The main purpose of this study is to analyze the personality characteristics of Fran?ois' langurs(Trachypithecus francoisi),a endangered primate species, from two aspects of biology and biopsychology.1.The daily behavior of 40 captive Fran?ois' langurs in Wuzhou Breeding Center of Guangxi was observed by Focal Animal Sampling and Continuous Recording.Aggressiveness,Activity and Sociability of captive langurs were analyzed and compared.1)Aggressiveness from a gender perspective, male individuals were more aggressive than female individuals 1.07(SD0.73)VS 0.60(SD0.38).Aggressiveness in terms of age, showed an increasing trend in addition to the aggressiveness of the elderly: middle-aged 1.55(SD0.82)> old aged 1.14(SD0.54)> adult 0.88(SD0.69)> sub-adult 0.35(SD0.32)> juvenile 0.28(SD0.18).Aggressiveness In terms of age and sex,middle-aged males were the most aggressiveness 1.78(SD0.73)and sub-adult females were the least aggressiveness 0.16(SD0.06).2)Sociability from the gender point of view, the sociality of female individuals is higher than that of male individuals 0.63(SD 0.13)VS 0.39(SD0.14).Sociability from the entire age group: adult 0.62(SD0.18)> juvenile 0.54(SD0.09)> old aged 0.43(SD0.18)> sub-adult 0.43(SD0.12)> middle-aged 0.39(SD0.18).Sociability from the perspective of age and gender, adult females have the highest sociability 0.73(SD0.10),and older male individuals have the weakest sociability 0.30(SD0.13).3)Activity from the gender point of view, the sociality of female individuals is higher than that of male individuals 0.41(SD0.09)VS 0.33(SD0.12).Activity in terms of age, except for middle-aged individuals, the activity decreases with age: juvenile 0.40(SD0.06)< sub-adult 0.50(SD0.06)< adult 0.38(SD0.12)< old aged 0.32(SD0.05)< middle-aged 0.22(SD0.05).Activity In terms of age and sex, young females had the highest activity 0.52(SD0.06)and middle-aged males had the weakest activity 0.20(SD0.05).4)Animal individual aggressiveness in the breeding area within the breeding center and in the open area accessible to tourists 0.87(SD0.72)VS 0.79(SD0.70),(Mann-Whitney U: U = 177,P = 0.692),sociability 0.55(SD0.18)VS 0.45(SD0.17),(Mann-Whitney U: U = 125,P = 0.062)and activity 0.39(SD0.12)VS 0.34(SD0.09),(Mann-Whitney U: U =157,P =0.345).There were no significant differences between the reproductive and open groups in the three personality traits.2.Twenty-eight Fran?ois' langurs in the open area of the breeding center were tested for boldness "predator model" and exploration "novelty".Boldness and exploration of captive langurs were analyzed and compared with the data obtained from experimental behavior tests.1)Boldness from a gender perspective, male individuals were more boldness than female individuals 4.61(SD1.13)VS 4.30(SD0.89),but there is no significant difference for gender(Mann-Whitney U: U=73.50,P=0.353);Boldness in terms of age,sub-adult 4.91(SD1.02)> middle-aged 4.44(SD0.96)> adult 4.21(SD1.13)> old aged 4.00(SD0.33);From the whole age group, boldness did not increase or decrease regularly with age,and there was no significant difference of boldness in different age groups(Kruskal-Wallis H: H=3.758,df=3,P=0.289).2)Exploration from the gender point of view, the exploration of female individuals is higher than that of male individuals 4.46(SD0.97)VS 4.24(SD0.99),but there is no significant difference for gender(Mann-Whitney U: U=54.50,P=0.066);Exploration in terms of age: adult 5.18(SD1.11)> sub-adult 4.97(SD0.84)> old aged 4.67(SD1.45)> middle-aged 4.17(SD1.65);From the whole age group, exploration did not increase or decrease regularly with age,and there was no significant difference of exploration in different age groups(Kruskal-Wallis H: H=2.257,df=3,P=0.521).3.Forty langurs were selected as the subjects of daily behavior observation to conduct a personality questionnaire survey. The study concluded that the personality traits of captive langurs included openness, dominance, aggressiveness and neuroticism. The results of this study can provide a new perspective of strategic guidance for the breeding, breeding, management and protection of endangered species of langurs.
