With continuous improvement of oil field exploration, the proportion of heterogeneous reservoirs and complex hydrocarbon reservoirs shows a rapid growth, which makes it difficult for the conventional wireline logging to meet the expectation of the oil field development. The application of logging-while-drilling technology has become more and more widespread. As one of the most widely used logging-while-drilling methods, the azimuthal electromagnetic resistivity logging while drilling(AERLWD)can provide in-time information of farther reservoir and boundary information along with the distance to the boundary. It has become a key technology for wellsite data acquisition, interpretation, and geosteering. The logging response of AERLWD can be affected by various environmental factors. How to use the influence rules of these factors to exclude the influence of the irrelevant factors on the useful information and improve the efficiency of real-time information processing by extracting more accurate information about the formation and layer boundary has become an important issue to be solved in the way of pursuing better service of logging data processing and real-time geosteering of AERLWD.In this paper, the influences of several main environmental factors on the logging response are analyzed based on the forward numerical simulation of AERLWD with a coil system structure consists of four coils referring to ADR of Halliburton. This study is presented to provide solution basis for more accurate signal extraction aiming at better geosteering and real-time geological evaluation of azimuthal electromagnetic resistivity logging while drilling. On the premise of analyzing the logging response and summing up the influence rules of environmental factors, layer information such as resistivity and boundary distance is extracted using the crossplot charts in order to provide evidence for the data interpretation and geosteering of AERLWD.
