| This paper explores principles of rationality of credence function under the view of Bayesianism.Generally speaking, there are two main questions about the rationality of credence function. What is the principle that governs credence function? What is the principle that governs the update of credence function? From the view of Bayesainism, credence function is just the probability function, and the update of credence function should satisfy the ruie of conditionalization. This paper will check these two points of view.In chapter one,we introduce different interpretations of probability and show that subjective Bayesianism offer a subjective or epistemic interpretation for probability. In chapter two and chapter three,we introduce Dutch Book arguments and accuracy arguments for the rationality principles of credence function. In chapter four,we combine Dutch Book argument and accuracy argument to explore the rationality of credence function. Finally,we conclude that what Dutch Book argument and accuracy argument really show is that an agent’s credence function should satisfy the axioms of probability, and the agent should plan to update his or her credence function under plan conditionalization. Here Bayesianism reveals the rationality of credence function in two ways.On one hand, the Dutch Book argument shows that the requirement of rationality of credence function is a requirement oflogical consistency. On the other hand, the accuracy argument shows that the requirement of rationality of credence function is a requirement of epistemic rationality. And we can combine these two requirements of rationality together in one argument. |
