Reaserch On The Coral Faunas And Its Environmental Significance From The Shiqiantan Formation (Upper Carboniferous) In The Northeast Margin Of Gunggar Basin

In this paper the Upper Carboniferous rugose coral fauna is described from the Shiqiantan Formation(Upper Carboniferous)in the Northeast Margin of Junggar Basin.The rugose corals of15 genus and 26 species are systematically described.They are Lophophyllidium pendulum(Grabau),Lophophyllidium treaseptatum Zeng,Zaphrentites parallella Carruthers,Zaphrentites sp.Metriophyllum xinjiangense Zeng,Bradyphyllum bellicostatum Grabau,Amplexus crassoseptatus Zeng,Cyathaxonia sp.,Multithecopora junggarensis Wang,Bothrophyllum conicum(Fischer)Trautschold,B.shuangjingziense sp.nov.,B.pulchellum Zeng,Caninophyllum shuangjingziense Zeng,C.yui Wang,Timania schmidti Stuckenberg,T.dongjunggarensis Zeng,T.pseudotimanoides Zeng,T.dongjunggarense crassoseptata Zeng,Pseudotimania mosquensis Dobrolyubova et Kabakovich,Gshelia minor Zeng,G.qitaiensis Zeng,Sidleckia bjornoyana Fedorowski,Caninia breviseptata Cai,C.terrai Schindewolf,C.sp.,Pseudozaphrentoides mapingensis(Lee et Yu).Comprehensively discuss the similarities and differences between Caninophyllum and Bothrophyllum.The axial septum in Caninophyllum is divided into the cardinal and the counter septum early in the ontogeny.The cardinal septum in Caninophyllum is shortened fairly early in the ontogeny,and its counter septum is equal to the adjacent major septa.The axial septum in Bothrophyllum lasts up to early maturity.The length of cardinal septum equals to average major septa or longer counter septum long up to early mature growth stage,may be equal to other major septa in advanced maturity.Zaphrentites-Lophophyllidium-Multithecopora coral assemblage was produced from Shiqiantan area in Shiqiantan Formation.Its ecological niche is from the lower part of BA2 to the upper part of BA3,roughly equivalent to the coastal zone to the restricted platform.It is an enclosed environment with turid water,soft basement and low energy in shallow water.Caninophyllum-Bothrophyllum-Timania coral assemblage was produced from Shuangjingzi area in Shiqiantan Formation.The ecological niche belongs to BA3,which may be an open shallow sea with strong kinetic energy of water.(BA=Benthic Assemblage)...
