Tamm plasmon polaritons(TPPs)is a special kind of optical surface mode, which exists at the interfaces of one-dimensional photonic crystal heterojunction or metal/dielectric distributed Bragg reflector(DBR).Compared with traditional surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs),TPPs can be excited directly by the both TE-and TMpolarized light from free-space with extremely high quality factor.Accordingly, the researches on TPPs and its coupling characteristics have raised increasing interests, which promises great potential in many applications such as photovoltaics, optoelectronic detection, optical sensing, and light emitting devices. In this dissertation, the characteristics of TPPs mode and its coupling has been systematically investigated in the graphene / DBR / silver structure and gold grating / multilayer dielectric composite structure. The main contents of this thesis are listed in the following:(1)Strong longitudinal coupling of the Tamm plasmon polaritons(TPPs)is investigated in a graphene/DBR/Ag slab hybrid system. It is found that TPPs can be excited at both the top graphene and the bottom silver slab interface, which can strongly interact with each other in this coupled structure.Numerical simulation results demonstrate that the vertical Tamm plasmon coupling can be either tuned by adjusting the geometric parameters or actively controlled by the Fermi energy in graphene sheet as well as the incident angle of light, allowing for strong light-matter interaction with a tunable dual-band perfect absorption.Additionally, the coupling strength of the hybrid modes exhibits a large tuning range, from a large Rabi splitting to an extremely narrow induced transparency in this coupled regime.Coupled mode theory has been employed to explain the strong coupling phenomenon.(2)Coupling of the Tamm plasmon polaritons(TPPs)and magnetic polaritons(MPs)is studied in a gold grating / multilayer dielectric composite structure in the near-infrared band.It is found that TPPs and MPs can be excited and strongly interact with each other in this coupled structure.Numerical simulation results demonstrate that the TPPs-MPs coupling can be either tuned by adjusting the geometric parameters, rendering an nullabsorption in the designed system. Our investigations hold the potential in optoelectronic detection, optical sensing, light emitting devices and nano nonlinear photonics.
