The Maigaiti slope experienced a multi-stage tectonic movement during its formation and evolution, and because of the tectonic stress field changing several times, developing a multi-stage fault structure has become a prominent feature of the slope zone. The tectonic deformation patterns of different fault structures in the Maigaiti slope are different, and the formation and evolution of multi-stage fault structures are complex,so it's difficult to understand the tectonic style, combination relationship, formation age, evolution process and genetic mechanism. The oil and gas reservoirs discovered in the slope area are all developed in the fault tectonic belt, and the fault activities control hydrocarbon accumulation obviously.Based on the theories of modern tectonic geology, structural analysis,fault-related fold, and the means of balanced cross-section technique,it will be studied the faulting activity of Maigaiti slope and its control on oil and gas. There are the following conclusions:(1)Fault activity plays an important role in improving lithology. The upper wall and lower wall of the fault have an effect on sedimentary thickness,it controls the distribution of hydrocarbon source rocks and reservoir-cap assemblages, and it cuts down the Cambrian hydrocarbon downward. The fault also can be used as an important hydrocarbon migration channel.(2)The temporal and spatial matching relationship is closely related to the history of fault development and evolution and various reservoir elements, which directly determine the migration and occurrence of oil and gas. Most of the traps in the southwestern part of the tower are developed in the fault zone.On the background of ancient buried hills, the fault activity is weak, and there are not only structural types of traps, but stratigraphic traps and ancient buried hill traps.(3)The deep and large faults may lead to a large number of oil and gas loss along the faults, causing the ancient oil and gas reservoirs to be destroyed and readjusted.
