The shale oil resources in China are very rich and are still in the initial exploration stage.Therefore,it is important to learn from the successful exploration experience of the U.S.shale oil.The U.S.shale oil has the same meaning as tight oil in general.With an integrated approach,the resource potential and distribution of the U.S.shale oil are documented:By end of 2018,the total resource of shale oil is 200.9×10~8t.The cumulative production is 17.9×10~8t and the remaining reserve is 27.2×10~8t with a discovery maturity of 22.5%.In terms of basins,the U.S.shale oil is mainly distributed in the Permian basin,the gulf basin and the williston basin.Respectively the total resources of shale oil are 136.5×10~8t,28.0×10~8t,27.2×10~8t,accounting for 68.0%,14.0%and 11.3%.In terms of proven reserves,there is little difference among the three basins,but the recoverable resources to be discovered in Permian basins are much larger than those in the other two basins.This is because the newly evaluated amount of recoverable resources of shale oil in the Delaware sub-basin in the Permian basin is very large,which is roughly equivalent to the amount of all other evaluation units previously estimated.The core control factor of shale oil enrichment is source rock.The key factor of enrichment and exploitation is reservoir characteristics.The important factor of high yield is the relationship between source and reservoir allocation.
