KTP crystals which grown with hydrothermal method has outstanding features such as good optical uniformity,thermal stability,excellent transmissibility,low electrical conductivity and high laser damage threshold.By analyzing the electro-optical effect and elastic-optical effect of KTP crystal,and using theoretical calculation,it is found that by using the structure of two crystals in orthogonal series can compensate the static birefringence in KTP,and when the two crystals are effected by the same acting force,it can also offset the influence of stress birefringence of crystal.By testing the temperature stability of two groups of KTP electro-optic Q-switching which has different packaging methods and different sizes,the resual showed that the stress birefringence in cystal make the temperature stability becomes worse and the performance of Q-switching is degraded.In order to reduce the impact of stress,large size crystals should be selected to make the electro-optic Q switch,meanwhile,the assembly process need to be improved.In this study,the electro-optic Q switch which made of bonding large size hydrothermal KTP crystal was used to realize the operation of Nd:YVO4 laser with high repetition frequency successfully.By comparing the insertion loss,average power,pulse width and peak power of the Nd:YVO4 laser made by electro-optic Q switch of KTP crystal or the electro-optic Q switch of RTP,the experimental results shows that the hydrothermal KTP crystal has excellent performance.By analyzing the temperature,the stress and other influencing factors,improving the manufacture technology of electro-optic Q switch which made of hydrothermal KTP crystal,can also improve the performance of High repetition frequency electro-optic Q laser that made by the hydrothermal KTP crystal.It makes the laser to achieve high frequency and narrow pulse width,and provides a better choice for laser application fields such as laser military weapons and laser fine processing.
