As emerging and classical persistent organic pollutants,Parabens and PAHs are both characterized by refractory, high toxicity, long duration and biological accumulation. They pose a great threat to the ecological environment and human health. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to study their pollution status in the intertidal zones for developing better prevention and control of persistent organic pollutants(POPs)in the future. The intertidal zone is a zone where oceans and lands are interconnected. The environment of intertidal zones will influence the ecologigical environment and human health in coastal areas directly.Up to now,a few studies on the pollution status of these two kinds of persistent organic pollutants in the intertidal zones of China have been reported. In view of little know about the pollution status of Parabens and PAHs in sediments from the intertidal zones so far,six Parabens and sixteen PAHs in surface sediment samples from typical tidal estuarine zones in China were detected for investigating their pollution levels and distributions in this study. It was showed that the total concentration(sum of six parabens: ?parabens)of parabens in sediment samples ranged from 2.20 to 24.5 ng/g,with a geometric mean value of 8.11 ng/g.MeP was the predominant compound among the six paraben analogues(detection rate:100%,contribution:79.9%),followed by PrP(91%,17.7%).Nevertheless,BuP and HepP were not found in any sediment samples. The total concentration of Parabens in sediments from Jiulong Estuary was the highest(geometric mean ?parabens:14.6 ng/g),while that from Beidai River Estuary was the lowest(4.34 ng/g).Principal component analysis suggests the similar source of Parabens in sediment samples from the tidal estuarine zones in China. The total concentration(sum of sixteen PAHs:?PAHs)of PAHs in sediment samples ranged from 12.4 to 438 ng/g,with a mean value of 161 ng/g,which were predominated by Fla,Pyr,NaP and Phe.The total concentration of PAHs in sediments from Hangu Estuary of Tianjin was the highest(mean:249 ng/g),while that in sediments from Sishiliwan Estuary of Yantai was the lowest(23.8 ng/g).Comparing with other studies, the concentrations of 16 PAHs in sediment samples measured in this study were relatively low.According to the isomer ratios of PAHs,a mixed petrogenic and pyrogenic source was identified in sediments from Sishiliwan Estuary of Yantai, while pyrogenic source was identified in the sediments from Liaohe,Hangu,Yancheng,Minjiang and Jiulong Estuary.Ecological risk assessment suggested that the pollution risk of PAHs in sediments from 6 tidal estuarine zones of Estuary were low.
