Protecting cultivated farmland play an essential role in achieving food security. To this end,China has introduced a series of farmland protection policies, but the overall performance on the implementation of farmland protection policies is poor.In addition to the imperfect supervision mechanism, the more important reason is that the current cultivated land protection mechanism lacks the incentive mechanism for the responsible subject of cultivated land protection, which seriously frustrates the willingness of the responsible subject of cultivated land protection. In recent years, although China has strengthened the support for grain production, the income of grain farmers has remained at a low level for a long time, and the proportion of non-agricultural income in total household income of farmers shows a trend of gradual increase, thus the income structure of farmers affects their behavior decision to a great extent. The implementation of economic compensation for farmland protection is an important measure to strengthen the incentive protection of farmland, and the rational design of compensation policy is not only an objective requirement for the smooth development of compensation policy, but also an inevitable choice to meet the long-term livelihood of farmers and guarantee the food security and interests of farmers.Based on the theory of farmer's behavior, the theory of external protection of cultivated land and the theory of sustainable development of cultivated land utilization. This paper, firstly, analyzes the grain output of Henan province and its status in the whole country,as well as the status quo of the utilization of cultivated land, and explores the satisfaction of farmers with the implementation of the current cultivated land protection policy from the perspective of micro-farm households.Meanwhile, the economic compensation for the implementation of cultivated land protection is determined.Secondly,a multi-logistic regression model is used to explore the impact of resource endowment and farmer differentiation on farmer farmland protection and economic compensation basis selection preference.Thirdly,we conduct a multivariate linear regression model to analyze the impact of resource endowment and farmer differentiation on farmer farmland protection and economic compensation standard selection preference. Then,an ordered probit model is utilized to examine the impact of resource endowment and farmer differentiation on farmer's preferences for the choice of economic compensation methods for farmland protection, and explore the moderating effect of farmer differentiation on the influence of resource endowments on farmer's choice of farmland protection for economic compensation methods. Finally, draw conclusions and make corresponding suggestions. The results show that:(1)The satisfaction evaluation result of current farmland protection policy is relatively high.Farmers have a higher awareness of the necessity of economic compensation, but have a lower level of understanding. The main channels for understanding are through the Internet and TV news.(2)The resource endowment of farmers in the sample area is relatively low.The degree of differentiation of farmers is relatively high.(3)Resource endowment and farmer differentiation are important factors that determine the preference selection of the economic compensation.Compared to farmers who choose compensation basis based on farmland area, farmers with less land endowment or with more capital endowment tend to choose compensation basis based on grain output and agricultural population. In labor endowment, the farmers with higher labor quantity but lower labor quality tend to choose the compensation basis based on agricultural population.Farmers with a lower degree of differentiation tend to choose compensation basis based on grain output, and farmers with a higher degree of differentiation tend to choose compensation basis based on agricultural population.(4)Resource endowment and farmer differentiation have important effects on the selection preference of economic compensation standards.Regardless of the compensation basis, land endowment and capital endowment are positively related to the compensation standards. In labor endowment, according to farmland area as compensation basis, the labor quality is positively related to the compensation standards.According to the grain output as compensation basis, labor quantity is negatively related to the compensation standard.According to the agricultural population as compensation basis, labor quantity is positively related to the compensation standards and the labor quality is negatively.Regardless of the compensation basis, farmer differentiation is negatively related to the compensation standards.(5)Resource endowment and farmer differentiation have important effects on the selection preference of economic compensation patterns.Land endowment, capital endowment, and labor endowment all have a positive impact on the multiple choices of compensation patterns;farmer differentiation has a negative impact on the multiple choices of compensation patterns, and farmer differentiation has a negative regulatory effect.(6)Suggestions are made to establish and improve laws and regulations related to economic compensation;to formulate and implement a differentiated economic compensation scheme for the protection of cultivated land;to make more favorable policies to promote the transfer of cultivated land;to increase publicity and education for farmers.
