The Belousov-Zhabotinsky?BZ?chemical oscillating reaction was introduced into gel polymer network as stimuli to prepare a new type of the self-oscillating gel which was called BZ gels.Without any external stimuli,only immersing the gel into BZ solution with constant concentration,then the physical and chemical properties of the gel could change periodically.The BZ gel can transduce chemical energy from BZ reaction into mechanical energy,which is similar to some self-oscillation phenomena of organisms.Thus,the BZ gel will have important applications in the engineering technology,biological medicine,bionic science and other fields.In this paper,several kinds of BZ gels were prepared and their surface morphology,swelling properties and the self-oscillation behavior induced by the BZ reaction were investigated in detail.Chapter 1:IntroductionThe BZ oscillation reaction,oscillation mechanism and research status of the BZ gel were reviewed in this part.In the end,the prospect for development of the BZ gel was described in brief.Chapter2:PreparationandcharacterizationofP?AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating gelA novel gel which undergoing an autonomic and periodical swelling-deswelling oscillation without any on-off switching of external stimuli was prepared by copolymerizationofacrylicacid?AA?withiron?II??5-acrylamide-1,10-phenanthroline?bis?1,10-phenanthroline??Fe?phen?3?as the catalyst for the Belousov-Zhabotinsky?BZ?reaction.The gel's self-oscillation behaviors of redox potential in BZ solution and the swelling properties in distilled water and redox media had been studied.In addition,the Turning patterns were observed firstly in the process of self-oscillating.Chapter 3:Preparation and characterization of P?VP-co-AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating gelWe succeeded in preparing a novel polymer gel which autonomously swelled and deswelled periodically in homogeneous solution without any external stimuli.The polymergelcomposedofanon-thermoresponsiveandbiocompatible vinylpyrrolidone?VP?and AA main chain covalently bonded to the Fe?phen?3 as the catalyst for the Belousov-Zhabotinsky?BZ?reaction.In this study,we used the microscope for the first time to obtain the figure of generation and propagation of the chemical wave and plotting the oscillation curve of the volume and color oscillation figure during the BZ reaction.Clarifying the influence of the content of immobilized PVP within the gel on the equilibrium swelling degree and the self-oscillating behavior.Chapter 4:Preparation and characterization of P?CD-co-VP-co-AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating gelThe P?CD-co-VP-co-AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating polymer gels composed of?-cyclodextrin??-CD?,Fe?phen?3,VP,and AA were synthesized.The polymer gel autonomously volume and color oscillation were observed synchronizing with chemical wave propagation in BZ conditions free of catalyst.The results indicate that the amplitude of diameter oscillation was about 40?m to approximately 10%of its initial diameter and the oscillation sustained several hours.The long-lasting oscillation gels with a large amplitude under mild conditions would be useful for development of biomimetic materials that can undergo self-oscillation without external stimuli.Chapter 5:Preparation and characterization of PEG-P?CD-co-AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating gelA novel PEG-P?CD-co-AA-co-Fe?phen?3?self-oscillating gels were prepared with PEG as new hydrophilic segment.Studying the surface morphology,swelling properties and the oscillation behavior of the gel and the influence of the content of PEG on the self-oscillating behavior.Due to the special interpenetrating network structure,the BZ reaction was faster within the gel and the propagation speed of the chemical wave was also faster in which.The feature made the gel have important application value in designing autonomous mass-transport systems with fast speed.
