Bisphenol S(Abbreviated to BPS)is an important organic intermediate and raw material for additives and is widely used.In the paper,preparation process was improved to synthesize the product of BPS with high quality.The solvent and catalyst can be reused,which can save raw materials to cut costs.High purity of BPS was achieved by purifying with water and adsorbent,which was non-toxic and environmentally friendly.Activated carbon,sepiolite and modified ones were chosen as adsorbent.Preparing materials with special structure for purification experiments was also studied.The purification process was improved to obtain high purity and good color of BPS products,while reusing the refined water and adsorbent can reduce waste emission.1,5-Naphthalene disulfonic acid can catalyze the synthesis of BPS.The optimal amount was 5g while the yield of crude BPS was 96.24% and the purity was 94.34%.The solvent and catalyst can be recovered and be used with fresh material in a certain proportion.Activated carbon and sepiolite had a good effect of purifying.The better process was as followed: m(crude BPS): m(adsorbent): m(water)= 1:0.1:50,the mixture was stirred for 1h at 100?,hot filtered and then cool crystallized.The BPS product was pure white after being purified with activated carbon while the purity of BPS was 98.48% and the yield was 84.88%.The purity of the BPS purified with sepiolite was 98.67% and the yield was 86.21% while the color of BPS was not as good as the one purified with activated carbon.Modificating activated carbon and sepiolite can properly improve the refining quality,but not had much increase.High purity of BPS product can be achieved by purifying with water and adsorbent in two steps.The improved process was as followed: A mixture of 7g crude BPS and 300 g water was heated until the BPS dissolved completely.With addition of 0.5g of sepiolite and 0.2g of activated carbon,the mixture was then stirred for 1h at 100? and hot filtered.The wet primary purified product was refined again with addition of 180 g water and 0.3g sepiolite.The final purified BPS with the high purity of 99.66% can be obtained and the chroma of BPS was less than 20 grade.Also the purified water and adsorbent can be recovered and be used.The method was simple enough,non-toxic,environmentally friendly and suitable for industrialization.
