Abalone shells are microlaminate composites of mineral and biopolymers,typically consisted of 95%CaCO3 by weight and 5%organic macromolecules,and exhibit exceptional nanoscale regularity.Abalone,as a member of the Marine invertebrates,is a precious medicinal material,has all advantages of Marine invertebrates.The abalone is used in variety of ways,at the same time,more than 95%of the quality of shell was abandoned which not only caused environmental burden,but also leaded a huge waste of resources.The formation of abalone shell is in its own organic matter induced,and in accordance with certain rules from the self-assembly.Nacre is comprised of an organic matrix of biomolecules embedded in crystalline calcium carbonate layers.These biomolecules play crucial role in nucleation,growth induction and inhibition of nacre formation.Besides regulating the mineralization process of nacre,water-soluble matrix(AWSM)contributes to its biological activities.Because of its excellent biological activities,nacre has been used in several traditional pharmaceutical preparations,to stimulating bone growth and enhancing bone density.In this study,abalone shell is making full used in two aspects:organic and inorganic.Using acetic acid extraction method to extract the AWSM,and the AWSM was used as active factor to explore the process of the tooth remineralization,to explore the mineralization effect of water-soluble organic matter on the teeth in different acetic acid volume percent extract,different mineralization concentration and mineralization time under the condition of simulated oral environment.Meanwhile,biological hydroxyapatite(HAP)porous microspheres have been successfully obtained from abalone shells via hydrothermal method which maintaining the pure HAP phase with B-type carbonate substitution.In this paper,the best condition and the properties of the HAP are analyzed,and the adriacin doxorubicin(DOX)was used to study the drug-release properties and biocompatibility as sample drug.This study found that AWSM has the ability to induce teeth enamel remineralization in the simulated mouth environment.Moreover,the shape of mineralized HAP which grows on the surface of corroded enamel is changed,with the changing of concentration of water-soluble organic matter,remineralization time and the extraction process of water-soluble organic matter.In this study,the HAp microspheres have a size distribution at 6 ?m with an average surface area of 128.6659 cm2/g and the pore size of 9.0645 nm.The prepared HAP displayed a high drug loading capacity and pH-responsive sustained-control led drug release behavior when loading DOX.Moreover,the control of HAP on drug release system showed a high ability to kill cancer cells.These results indicated that HAP is promising for applications in various biomedical fields such as drug delivery system and oncotherapy.
