Carbon fiber composite(carbon fiber reinforced plastics,CFRP)is a new material composed of resin as matrix with carbon fiber as reinforcing material after a series of heat treatment is transformed, has low heat conduction efficiency and low thermal expansion coefficient, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and other excellent performance. But the physical characteristics of high strength and high hardness make the cutting tool very easy to wear, and lead to the difficult control of the quality of the machining surface, which seriously restricts the improvement of its processing quality. In this paper, the diamond milling end milling cutter with different structure is used to carry out the side milling test of CFRP.The experimental research on the milling force, the surface quality and the tool wear of the rhombus milling cutter is carried out.The main research contents include the following aspects.First of all, aiming at the problems of surface quality defects and tool wear caused by milling CFRP,three aspects are analyzed and optimized from the following aspects: milling cutter structure, tool material and diamond coating structure. At the same time,a cutting test of diamond coated end mill for milling CFRP is designed, which includes the design of test plan for milling force, tool wear and machined surface quality, providing data support for subsequent related research.Secondly, the influence of the cutting parameters on the milling force is studied through the orthogonal test results of CFRP milling with a rhombic milling cutter.milling force experience formula of diamond coated tools were deduced and established, and the process of CFRP specimen preparation and detection method research.Thirdly, the tool wear and breakage morphology of the diamond coated milling cutter is analyzed.Through the test of tool wear and cutting performance of a rhombus milling cutter,The tool wear process and wear mechanism of the diamond coated milling cutter are studied. The results show that the tool wear occurs mainly on the back surface,Wear mechanism is abrasive wear,Micro oxidation wear occurred in the wear area of the back surface of the cutting edge at the same time,The tool wear rate is accelerated. Finally, through the side milling CFRP test from three aspects of milling parameters, tool wear and tool structure on the surface quality of CFRP was studied, analyzed the surface topography of different tool wear conditions and microstructure characteristics, effects of different tool structure for processing defects are compared, and the relationship between milling parameters influence on surface quality. In this paper, the preparation and testing methods of CFRP specimens are provided, and the structure and material of milling tools are optimized. The performance of diamond coated end mills is analyzed, which is of great significance for the popularization and application of diamond coated end mills.
