With the rapid development of industry and economy, the pollution of heavy metals in water and soil is getting worse and worse.Water inpolluted by heavy metal ions, due to its toxicity, are not easy biodegradation and thus it is defined as the first class of pollutants. So it has caused a great harm to human health, how to reduce and eliminate the heavy metals has become the serious problem for the current environmental workers and researchers. This paper is to study on the adsorption properties of heavy metal copper ion by rice straw. The main reason that select rice straw as the absorbent is related with the facts that the rice straw is one of the biggest agricultural wastes as high yielding crops and its price is low,and it can be reproducible and biodegradable materials. The main contents of the experiment are as follows:The rice straw was modified using five chemicals such as Sulfuric acid,Sodium hydroxide,Tri-Ammonium citrate,Ammonium sulfate and Tri(2-Hydroxyethyl)for improving of the adsorption of heavy metal ions and their characteristics is determined by the scanning electron microscope analysis(SEM),fourier transform infrared analysis(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).The adsorption capacity and the removal efficiency of copper ion on the rice straw is determined by UV spectrophotometer. When the rice straw is modified with Tri(2-Hydroxyethyl)Amine,The adsorption capacity of copper ion on it is high and the removal rate was 79.7%.While the adsorption capacity of the raw rice straw and rice straw modified with sulfuric acid has no significant difference, the removal efficiency of copper ion is 55%?60%.The results show that the modified rice straw can be used as adsorbent for effective removing of copper ion.
