Erosion Wear Performance Of Nitride Coatings On Different Substrates

In this paper,TiN,TiAIN and TiAlSiN coatings are made on the two substrates——Ti6Al4V and YG6 by ion beam assisted vacuum pulse filter arc technology.Meanwhile,the erosion wear characteristics of each coating on different substrates are researched by gas blast erosion test and wear mechanisms of coatings are systematically analyzed.The material phase composition of the coatings is tested,and the microstructure and physical mechanical properties of the coatings are observed and analyzed.The conclusions are as follows.(1)The phase composition of the main components in TiN is the fcc-TiN structure,while the main phase composition of TiAIN is the TiAIN phase.And the XRD pattern of TiAlSiN presents a single cubic(Ti,Al)N phase with amorphous trend.(2)Compared with TiN,TiAIN is morecompact due to the addition of Al,and TiAlSiN is further dense due to the addition of Si,and the surface is more smooth.(3)The order of coating hardness on YG6 is TiAIN>TiAISiN>TiN,and the order of coating hardness on Ti6A14V is TiAIN>TiN>TiAlSiN.And the most hard coating is TiAIN on YG6.Its hardness is 23.13 GPa,while the least hard coating is TiAlSiN on Ti6Al4V.Its hardness is 14.67 GPa.The elastic modulus of the coatings are between 230 GPa and 625 GPa.In terms of binding force,the rank of coatings on YG6 is TiAlSiN>TiAIN>TiN,and the rank of coatings on Ti6A14V is TiAlN>TiAlSiN>TiN.Besides,all three coatings bind with YG6 more tight than Ti6A14V.The erosion wear characteristics of TiN,TiAIN and TiAISiN coatings on different substrates are researched.The conclusions are as follows.(1)The rank of coatings'erosion wear rate on YG6 and Ti6Al4V is TiAIN<TiN<TiAlSiN,and the erosion wear rate of coatings on YG6 is lower than that on Ti6Al4V.(2)The coatings' resistance of erosion wear increases with the H/E and H3/E2 increase on Ti6A14V.The erosion wear rates of the coatings on YG6 decrease with the decrease of the elastic modulus difference between the coatings and the substrate.(3)The effect of substrate hardness on the coating resistance to erosion wear is the better resistance on the harder substrate.The removal mechanism of TiN,TiAIN and TiAlSiN on the substrates of different properties in the erosion process is summarized by the comprehensive analysis of the microstructure of the erosive coating surface.The conclusions are as follows.(1)The erosion wear mechanism of TiN on Ti6A14V mainly includes plastic and brittle fatigue fracture material removal,and the main mechanism on YG6 is brittle fatigue fracture.(2)The erosive surface of TiAIN on Ti6A14V is mainly characterized by erosion wear performance of plastic materials.And the erosion wear mechanism of TiAlN on YG6 is mainly characterized by micro-cutting and plastic fatigue fracture.(3)The erosion wear mechanism of TiAlSiN on Ti6Al4V is mainly caused by plastic damage and crack diffusion in the initial stage of erosion,while in the later stage of erosion,the characteristic of brittle material is obvious.The erosive surface of TiAlSiN on YG6 shows obvious brittle material flaking characteristics.
