A series of iridium and ruthenium complexes bearing pyrene-tagged N-heterocyclic carbene ligands have been synthesized, and the iridium complexes have been shown to be efficient catalysts for the alkylation of amines by alcohols and H/D exchange of organic molecules.Furthermore, the pyrene moiety allows a facile heterogenization of the iridium complexes on the surface of single walled carbon nanotubes via a ?-? interaction. The Ir-based heterogeneous catalysts offer the advantage of easy separation from the reaction mixture and the ability of reutilization without significant decrease of catalytic activity.
