The problem that how to improve the stability of emulsion explosives(EE)has always been one of the concerns of relevant researchers.Oil phase material, which plays an important role in preventing demulsification of EE and ammonium nitrate crystallization,is an significant part of EE.As is well known, although the compound wax, because of its excellent performance,is commonly used at present,it still has some problems that EE,made by dispersing supersaturated ammonium nitrate(AN)droplets in compound wax containing a surfactant has the characteristics of low stability and short storage time, which make the detonation performance of EE decrease, even misfire. This result brings property loss and inconvenience to users,so it is of great significance to develop a new type of oil phase material to improve the stability of EE.To find a new type of composite oil phase, which can effectively improve the stability of EE,in this paper, microcrystalline wax, vaseline and liquid oil(methyl oil, soybean oil and rapeseed oil)were mixed to used to prepare EE in a certain proportion. Methods of microscopical observation,high-low temperature cycle experiment, determination of ammonium nitrate precipitation and rheology study were used to quantificationally comprehend the stability of EE above mentioned, these experimental results show that compared with the commonly used composite wax,the dispersed phase particle of emulsion matrix of 1#-1,1#-2 is more uniform, the particle size of that is smaller and the quantity of crystallization of ammonium nitrate is less.To sum up,the results of this study provides a newly composite oil phase which can greatly improve the storage stability of EE.Thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA)was used to analyze the thermal behavior of emulsion matrix prepared by new oil phase. The apparent activation energies of the thermal decomposition reactions obtained by Ozawa,Friedman and Vyazokin-Weight equations, based on the heat flux data in TG-DTG curve at four different heating rates of 5,10,15 and 30?/min,are 172kJ/mol,146kJ/mol and 105kJ/mol respectively. The thermal decomposition mechanism of emulsion matrix of 1?-1 is classified as random nucleation and growth of n=2 by C-R and Achar method.By comparing the activation energy of the three samples,it could be concluded that the thermal stability of the emulsion matrix prepared by the new composite oil phase is better.
