Study On The "Line" Decoration Of Modern Folk Costume And Design Practice

Each design of modern folk costumes can be seen as consisting of various points,lines,fragments and other composition elements.The basic decorative element of "line" appears everywhere,includes cut line,Silhouette line,quilt line,pleat line,bottom hem line of various costumes and accessories,such as tops(jacket,gua,shirt,skirt,dress etc.),underwear,and accessories such as purse and cloud shoulder.The "line" can be seen everywhere.It is one of the three elements that forms the beauty of graphic composition.Since ancient times,various forms of lines have been used by artists in various artistic categories.They are the most expressive visual elements in the picture.Various forms of line are applied on different art materials by artists and show powerful visual effect.The article focuses on the"line"decoration of modern folk costume,based on the objects of collections of Folk Costume Museum of Jiangnan University as well as the doctoral materials,and combined measurements data,flat construction,statistical analysis to support comprehensive study of costumes and accessories of "line" decoration.Firstly,sort the costumes with typical "line" decoration feature,explore with two types as line of construction and decoration to summarize the decorative techniques and evolution patterns of decoration of"line".Secondly,summarize the construction features of modern folk costume,which includes continuous type(wallpaper style,strip style,fold style,and sport style)and separated type(loose and tight style,center style,and free style).Then the author sorts out the traditional aesthetics of composition rules such as symmetric and rhythm.Finally,design the creative costume via combination of modern fashion design thinking and method as well as three elements of shape,material,craftsmanship.In the meantime,it is crucial to transform the construction line into creative renew Chinese-style fashion design process.To sum up,the "line" decoration has in-depth research value and can be study to support the inherit and creative fashion design to combine modern fashion design method and thinking,only in this way,can we expect modification of Chinese traditional fashion image of modesty and elegance.It is important to concentrate on the core root of traditional culture and apply on the modern Chinese fashion design to enrich it’s cultural connotation and ethnic characteristics.
