The flammability of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS)severely restricts its application in related fields.In this paper,we used 2,4,6-tris-1,3,5-triazine(FR-245),decabromodiphenyl ethane(DBDPE),hexabromocyclododecane(HBCD)with antimony trioxide(Sb2O3)respectively;FR-245?DBDPE?Sb2O3 and chlorinated polyethylene(CPE);DBDPE?HBCD?Sb2O3 and chlorinated butyl rubber(CIIR)for the flame retardant ABS,the main results are as follows:A series of flame retardant composites were prepared by using FR-245?DBDPE?HBCD as flame retardant and Sb2O3 as synergist,and the related properties of the composites are characterized by means of Limited oxygen index(LOI),UL-94 vertical burner,scanning electron microscopy(SEM),thermogravimetric analysis(TGA),mechanical properties measurements.the test results are:FR-245?HBCD have good compatibility with ABS.For flame retardant properties,DBDPE is superior to HBCD and HBCD is better than FR-245;For mechanical properties,HBCD is better than FR-245 and FR-245 is better than DBDPE.The ABS was modified with DBDPE and FR-245 as flame retardant?Sb2O3 as synergistic agent,CPE as toughening agent.The effects of flame retardant and CPE on properties of ABS were studied.the test results of UL-94,LOI,SEM and mechanical properties show that when FR-245/DBDPE mass ratio is 3:2 and the total content is 13%,the amount of CPE is 8%,LOI of flame retardant ABS is 24.4%,and the vertical burning reaches UL-94 V-0 level,notched impact strength is 12.1kJ/m2.The ABS was modified with DBDPE and HBCD as flame retardant?Sb2O3 as synergistic agent,CIIR as toughening agent.The effects of flame retardant and CIIR on properties of ABS were studied.It was found that DBDPE and HBCD had synergistic effect on the flame retardancy of ABS.TGA results showed that the blend of DBDPE and HBCD delayed the heat degradation of ABS.From SEM investigation,HBCD made the DBDPE particles dispersed well in the ABS matrix and the flame retardancy and impact strength of ABS were improved;the total content of FR is 12%,the amount of CPE is 10%,and the vertical burning reaches UL-94 V-0 level,notched impact strength is 18kJ/m2.
