This topic adopts a welding method that combines ultrasonic vibration and MIG welding.During the welding process, the ultrasonic vibration is applied laterally to the end of the welding nozzle, acting on the welding wire, and the transfer of ultrasonic energy is used to transfer the droplets, which promotes the transfer of droplets and improves the efficiency of welding deposition to a certain extentand.According to the principle of composite welding and welding methods,a platform was designed. The entire device design is mainly composed of two parts, the welding platform with a fixed welding torch and a ultrasonic vibration device, and the mobile device that makes the workpiece perform a uniform linear motion. In the range of 22.5V to 28.5V,4 sets of welding voltages were selected.Under the welding current of 150 A,four sets of ultrasonic-MIG hybrid welding experiments were performed. The experimental results show that as the welding voltage increases, the weld seam width appears. The significant increase is similar to that of ordinary MIG welding.Under the voltage of 24.5V,3 sets of welding currents were selected to compare the difference between the welded joints of the composite welding and the ordinary MIG welding. It was found that the weld width of the ultrasonic-MIG composite welding became larger and the remaining height appeared.and the melting area increased. The simulation of droplet transfer in ultrasonic-MIG hybrid welding was carried out and is verified by experiments.A simulation model was established for two kinds of welding processes:ordinary MIG welding and ultrasonic-MIG hybrid welding. The simulation results show that the critical current of the drop transition of the ultrasonic-MIG composite welding of low carbon steel is about 220A,which is lower than that of ordinary MIG welding droplet transition.
