Montmorillonite,as a layered clay mineral with abundant reserves, has some good properties. The adsorption capacity of hydrophobic organic pollutants by natural montmorillonite is low because of the hydrophilic surface. Then we consider the organic modification of natural montmorillonite,so as to increase its ability to adsorb organic pollutants. In this paper,we use the natural montmorillonite and a new type multi amine-containing Gemini surfactant(maGs)as matrices and modified agent, respectively.A series of maGs modified montmorillonites(GMMT)were synthesized by the method of traditional hydrothermal method. And then, they were applied to adsorbing phenolic pollutants and heavy metal ions in aquatic.XRD,FT-IR,BET and TG were used to analysis the structural characterization of natural montmorillonite and GMMTs.The characterization results indicated that the modifier has successfully entered the interlayer of montmorillonite and the hydrophilic surface of natural montmorillonite has become hydrophobic.Although the layer spacing was improved by the organic modification, but the thermal stability was reduced.Afterthat, the GMMTs were used to adsorb the phenolic pollutants and heavy metal ions in aquatic. The effect of varying factors including the concentration of surfactant, adsorbent mass, initial adsorbate concentration, reaction time, solution pH,and temperature on the uptake of contaminant onto GMMTs were investigated in detail. The adsorption results showed that the GMMT has a good effect on the adsorption of these three phenolic pollutants and the adsorption capacity was 2,4,6-trichlorophenol>2-chlorophenol>phenol.Meanwhile,comparing with the original montmorillonite, the adsorption capacity got a significantly increase after modification. In order to further understand the adsorption process of phenolic pollutants by GMMT,we carried out molecular dynamics simulation to analyze the adsorption mechanism from microcosmic perspective. After a series of experiments,we can find that the GMMT obtained by this experiment is better than the unmodified montmorillonite in the adsorption of organic pollutants and heavy metal ions, indicating that the GMMT prepared in our work can be widely used in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation. So,it can be regard as an efficient,non-toxic,low-cost and promising adsorbent.
