Designer surface plasmons(Designer SPs)are electromagnetic(EM)modes existed at the structured metal surfaces,which can break the diffraction limit and greatly reduce the size of devices.Designer surface plasmons polaritons(Designer SPPs)and designer localized surface plasmons polaritons(designer LSPs)are widely used in antenna,devices,sensing and so on.The dissertation focuses on near and far field manipulation and applications of designer SPs,whose main researches and contributions are listed as bellow:1.Highly directional metasurface antennas based on designer SPPs have been designed,which are compact and can convert suface waves to spatial waves with high efficiency by controlling phase modulation.2.A designer LSPs tunable resonator based on a corrugated ring structure with a slit has been proposed.By mounting Schottky barrier diodes(SBDs)or varactor diodes across the slit in the corrugated ring,to the best of our knowledge,electronic switchability and tunability of designer LSPs modes have been accomplished at the first time.3.Eletronically swithable and tunable band-pass filters based on designer LSPs have been designed.By mounting SBDs or varactor diodes across the slits in the corrugated ring,electronic switchability and dynamic tunability of passbands of the filters have been demonstrated,respectively.4.A microfluidic ethanol chemical sensor based on designer LSPs have been proposed,which can detect the ethanol concentration from the resonance frequency shift of the designer LSPs modes which are sensitive to the change of ethanol solution which are injected into the microfluidic channel put on the slits of the corrugated ring structure.It have been demonstrated that the sensor has the advantages of multi-band,small size,high sensitivity.
