PCD?Polycrystalline Diamond?and PDC?Polycrystalline Diamond Compact?require binders have high toughness and the thermal expansion coefficient match with diamond.Non-stoichiometric compounds have many excellent properties.In this paper,based on the study of the sintering of non-stoichiometric compounds TiC0.5.5 and transition metal carbides,three groups of binders were selected for optimization,Choosed the right binder and diamond complexed to sinter PCD?PDC.The composition and microstructure of the sintered body were analyzed mainly by XRD,SEM,etc.The properties of the sintered body such as hardness and fracture toughness were tested.The results show that the sintered body with 10vol.%ZrC in TiC0.5 has a good performance at sintering temperature 1450°C,the hardness is 18.9 GPa,and the fracture toughness is 9.34 MPa·m1/2.The sintered body with ZrB2 vol.40%in TiC0.5 has a good sintering temperature 1500°C,the hardness is 22.5 GPa,and the fracture toughness is8.20 MPa·m1/2.When the volume fraction of WC in TiC0.5 is 20%,the sintered body has a better performance at the sintering temperature 1450°C,the hardness is 20.5 GPa,and the fracture toughness is 8.50 MPa·m1/2.Prepared non-stoichiometric compound?Ti,M?Cx?M stands for transitional metal?by mechanical alloying?MA?and analyzed its sintering performance.Studies have shown that when the molar ratio of Ti to Mo is 7:3,a non-stoichiometric compound?Ti,Mo?C0.7 is prepared by MA,after high temperature and high pressure sintering,the sintered body had good mechanical properties at a sintering temperature1550°C,the hardness is 15.7 GPa and the fracture toughness is 6.80 MPa·m1/2.When the atom ratio of TiC to Nb is 7:3,a non-stoichiometric compound?Ti,Nb?C0.7 is prepared by MA,after sintered at high temperature and high pressure,the sintered body has good mechanical properties at a sintering temperature 1450°C,the hardness is 18.8 GPa,and the fracture toughness is 6.60 MPa·m1/2.When The atom ratio of TiC to Nb is 5:5,a non-stoichiometric compound?Ti,Nb?C0.5 is prepared by MA,after SPS,the mechanical properties are better when the sintering temperature is 1600°C,the hardness is 23.0 GPa,and the fracture toughness is7.20 MPa·m1/2.When The atom ratio of TiC to V is 6:4,a non-stoichiometric compound?Ti,V?C0.6 is prepared by MA after SPS,the mechanical properties are better when the sintering temperature is 1500°C,the hardness is 20.9 GPa,and the fracture toughness is5.30 MPa·m1/2.
