Azo dyes occupy an important position in the printing and dyeing industry.Reactive black 5 dye is one of the most representative dyes.Because it is widely used in a wide range of water environments,it affects not only the apparent indices such as the color of the water. It may also cause toxic hazards to humans and aquatic organisms. In this paper,PbO2/Ti was used as anode and graphite plate as cathode to conduct electrolysis of reactive black 5 dye wastewater.Using the chroma removal rate and COD removal rate as indicators, single factor experiments were performed on various factors affecting the electrolysis reaction, including electrolyte type and concentration, current density, initial solution pH,plate spacing, and electrolysis time. The main conditions affecting the electrolysis of reactive black 5 dye wastewater were determined:electrolyte NaCl concentration 2 g/L,current density 50 mA/cm2,initial pH 7,plate spacing 2 cm,electrolysis time 60 min.Under this condition, the removal rate of the color of the active black 5 dye wastewater can reach more than 99%,and the COD removal rate can reach 63%.It is indicated that electrolysis can be applied to the chroma removal of dye wastewater effectively, and the removal rate of COD should be further improved by combining other methods.
