The appendages of mantis shrimps were used to smash their prey and the powerful impact generated from high-speed strike can be withstand by the appendages which have the excellent ability of impact resistance.Based on the structure from the appendages of mantis shrimps,as well as shear thickening system,a new type of bionic impact resistant composite material was designed,The geometry of mantis shrimps'appendage was extracted to obtain the contour curve point coordinate groups,using computer image contour processing technology.Then a bionic surface body of mantis shrimp'appendage was constructed by UG NX 10.0 mapping software.The half spherical configuration,the protective helmet configuration and the mantis shrimp'appendage bionic configuration were designed and imported into ANSYS to make mechanical properties analysis respectively.The results show that mantis shrimp'appendage bionic configuration has the best mechanical properties and impact resistance properties.Three kinds of thin shell configurations were prepared by 3D printing technology for dropping-hammer impact test,the results show that the protective helmet configuration can withstand the minimum impact energy while the half spherical configuration has better impact resistance properties,and the mantis shrimp'appendage bionic configuration can withstand the most critical impact energy and has the best impact resistance properties.Two kinds of bionic structures were designed based on mantis shrimp chitin fiber spiral arrangement.Designing pattern was made according to the geometry of the appendage,then the two groups testing specimens of different spiral arrangement were prepared by pressing and heating process technology using carbon fiber as raw material,which means a better anti-impact capability.20%solid content SiO2/PEG shear thickening system was introduced to enforce the impact resistance capability due to the better shear thickening performance proved by rheological tests.The shear thickening fluid and the bionic spiral arrangement structure making of carbon fiber are combined through static immersion method and the anti-impact properties of the composite structure has been proved enhanced through dropping weight impact test.
