Silver loaded hydroxyapatite?AgHAp?is a kind of important inorganic antibacterial agent due to its high temperature stability,broad spectrum of antibacterial properties,durability and safety.Ceramics are ubiquitous in our lives,and the development of antibacterial ceramics can greatly reduce the risk of bacterial infection.In this paper,silver loaded hydroxyapatite powders and antibacterial ceramics were prepared,their structure and antibacterial properties were discussed,respectively.In this paper,silver loaded hydroxyapatite were synthesised successfully by wet chemical method using Ca?NO3?2·4H2O,AgNO3 and?NH4?2HPO4 as the raw material.The effects of silver content,different sintering temperature and different sintering methods on structure and antibacterial properties were investigated.The synthesized power was characterized by XRD,SEM,FTIR and other means,the antimicrobial properties against E.coli and S.aureus strains were studied by inhibition zone method,antibacterial rate method and the minimal inhibitory method.The results showed that the morphology of the samples was not changed obviously with the increase of content of silver,but the antibacterial properties of the samples got better.When the sintering temperature up to 900?,AgHAp appeared the second phase.the particle diameter increased with increased of the sintering temperature.The antibacterial properties increased with the increase of sintering temperature below1000?,but AgHAp sintered at 1100?has antibacterial effect only for short time.Also at the same temperature,the AgHAp powder prepared by microwave sintering has better crystallinity and impurity,and the antibacterial property is higher than the power sintered by conventional sintering.In this paper,antibacterial ceramic was prepared by putting 3%silver loaded hydroxyapatite as antibacterial agent.The effects of antibacterial agent content sintering temperature,heating rate and sintering methods on surface morphology and antibacterial properties of antibacterial ceramic were investigated.The antibacterial ceramic was characterized by XRD,SEM.The antimicrobial properties against E.coli and S.aureus strains were studied abiding by the JC/T897-2002 industrial standard of China.The results showed that the best antibacterial ceramic was prepared by microwave sintering with sintering temperature at 1000?,15?/min heating rate and6%AgHAp power.The best antibacterial ceramic has smooth appearance and good gloss with excellent antibacterial properties,the antibacterial rate against E.coli and S.aureus were 99.7%and 99%respectively.
