In order to reduce the energy consumption in chemical industry solar energy directly photocatalysis is a very attractive and desirable way.Since nanoparticles(NPs)of noble metals can strongly absorb visible light because of their plasmon resonance,it is interesting that solar energy under the plasmon depositing noble metal NPs as catalyst is applied to chemical industry.In this paper,a novel pathway of benzyl chloride synthesis was designed,which was carried out by the catalysis of nano Ag/AgCl plasmonic photocatalyst under visible light using chlorion as chlorination agent.The photocatalyst AgCl was prepared by the oil-bath heating,hydrothermal method,ion-exehange process and etching approach.The silver nanoparticles was loaded onto the surface of AgCl by chemical reduction reaction of silver nitrate.We got the photocatalyst Ag/AgCl with high loading level of silver,various size and structures,high-index facets.The photocatalysts were characterized by UV-DRS,XRD and SEM.Novel synthetic process of benzyl chloride was developed by the chlorination of toluene a-H with potassium chloride solution at room temperature using Ag/AgCl as photocatalyst under visible light.Firstly,the feasibility and main influence factor of the heterogenous photocatalytic reaction were researched.Secondly,the effects of some factor on the conversion,including the structure and dose of PTC,reaction time,catalyst quantity,and concentration of KCl,were studied.Thirdly,it is key to research the loading level of nano Ag to the influence of the conversion and selection of reaction.Fourthly,the chlorination condition was optimized,the conversion of toluene was 39%which almost equals traditional chlorination methods.And polychlorination products were not checked by GC and GC-MC,which showed the reaction had higher selectivity.Finally,in order to check the application scope of the reaction the chlorination of ethylbenzene,isopropylbenzene,4-tert-butyltoluene,o-chlorotoluene,m-chlorotoluene,p-chlorotoluene and p-nitrotoluene were studied.The result showed that the new way was universal in the chlorination of alkylarene.
