In this study,melamine cyanurate(MCA),melamine phosphate(MP)are used respectively to composed of intumescent flame retardant system with 2-Carboxyethyl(phenyl phosphinic)acid(CEPPA).By using the in-situ polymerization method to the preparation of a series of flame-retardant and anti dripping properties of modified polyester.The molecular structure,thermal properties,charring situation,and the combustion performance of modified polyester were characterized and analyzed by a variety of testing methods such as Intrinsic viscosity number DSC,TGA,LOI,CONE.PETA1 and PETP1 which have the better effect of flame-retardant and anti dripping properties will adding pentaerythritol and antioxidant 1010 to further improve their flame-retardant and anti dripping properties.DSC,TGA,experimental results show that:with the increase of flame retardant agent addition,Tg and Tm of modified PET are decreased,Tc are increased.And in the decomposition process of PET,the initial stability of the polymers decreased slightly,the final amount of residual carbon increased.LOI,CONE,vertical burning results show that:in the case of each components of IFR are the optimum mix,the LOI value increased to 29%from 23%of pure PET,anti dripping effect is greatly improved and some samples have the phenomenon of self extinguishing,and vertical burning test can reach V-0 level.In the CONE test,the peak heat release rate of PET which modified by intumescent flame retardant system have decreased significantly,compared with the pure PET the maximum can be reduced by 41.3%,compared with the sample which single addition of CEPPA modified maximum can be reduced by 40.2%,and the total heat release compared with the pure PET and the sample which single addition of CEPPA modified reduces greatly.The flame-retardant and anti dripping properties of PET have been improved effectively.The initial thermal stability of the samples which add additional pentaerythritol or antioxidant 1010 have been improved,and the amount of residual carbon maximum increased from 9.88%to 13.55%,the LOI value increased from 29%to 30%,the vertical combustion can reach V-0 level,the anti dripping effect have been further improved.In the CONE test,the time to arrival the peak heat release rate(tpk-HRR)and the time to arrival the peak mass loss rate(tpk-MLR)both have been delayed.the early stage of the combustion flame retardant performance have been improved.Study on carbon layer morphologies of the samples showed that:the PET which modified by the intumescent flame retardant system and add additional pentaerythritol or antioxidant 1010,all can be formed the expansion of carbon layer during thermal degradation which is dense and porous,and with the three dimensional structures.This carbon layer protect the substrate and inhibition of combustible gas overflow.
