A composite material is a material made from two or more constituent materials with different physical or chemical properties that, when combined, produce a material with characteristics different from the individual components to meet various requirements.Because of high absorption, high surface energy, high surface activity and other characteristics, composite porous nanofibers have many existing and potential applications in biology, medicine, energy, environment, advanced manufacturing technology, national defense, and so on.In this paper,polylactide/polyethylen glycol/curcumin(PLA/PEG/Cur)composite nanofibers with varying ratios of components were fabricated by electrospinning. And the drug release and antibacterial properties of obtained nanofiber mats were investigated. The effects of blending ratio and Cur dosage on the morphology and porous structure of composite nanofibers are studied firstly.Characterizations of the samples, such as porous structure, crystalline structure, and Cur release property, were investigated. The results showed successful entrapments of Cur in the PLA/PEG composite nanofibers were validated. And with the decreased PEG in the mixtures there appeared evident pores on the composite nanofiber surface.Secondly, the effects of various electrospinning parameters on the morphology of porous composite nanofibers were studied after determining the amounts of Cur added and blending ratio. The electrospun porous composite nanofibers were prepared by adjusting electrospinning parameters to explore optimal electrospinning parameters.Thirdly, the effects of blending ratio and Cur dosage on the drug release property of composite nanofiber membranes were investigated after determining the optimal spinning parameters. The research showed that when the Cur dosage was higher than 3%,the cumulative release rate had hardly increased.Meanwhile, the influence of blending ratio oncumulative release rate was related to the existence of porous structure of the composite nanofibers. And the porous structure could enhance the release properties of Cur.Finally, the effects of blending ratio on the antibacterial properties of composite nanofiber membranes were investigated after determining the optimal Cur dosage. The results showed the antibacterial effect of nonporous composite nanofiber membranes was better due to burst release over a short period of time. The initial burst release of Cur was prevented by porous composite nanofibers compared to nonporous composite nanofiber. That meant the porous structure of composite nanofibers could reduce the burst release and better control the drug release.
